    3. Sorry, a typo: should have said the family was found in NY through the 1910 US Census. Thanks for your attention to this. 3. George and List, , Can you tell me how one accesses the Cuyahoga County Marriage Records? I am searching for my greatgrandfather, Charles John Bye, born 1863, a tailor, originally of Sweden, immigrated to New York c. 1891 followed by his wife Anna Maja and children. He is found with that family in the NY census through 1901. Subsequently he left the family and moved to Ohio, where I have found him in the 1920 and 1930 Ohio US census records as living with a different family: wife, Elnora M. age 47 (immigrated from Sweden 1900), and children, Lydia M., 16, Myrtle E., 15, Thelma, 9, and Clifford, 7. Family lore supports the move by Charles to Ohio and several other factors match, so I am fairly certain this is my man. I have no idea how to search the Ohio records between 1910 and 1920. I also had hoped to find the death record of Charles in Ohio, but so far no luck. I would be grateful for any advice. Thank you, Brigid On Mar 29, 2005, at 10:14 AM, Gsellnau@aol.com wrote: > Hello list: > > I have Marriage Record #2754 of my grandparent's Sept. 25, 1895 > marriage in > Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, OH. 2. Hello list: I have Marriage Record #2754 of my grandparent's Sept. 25, 1895 marriage in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, OH. The 3 line record called "Record of Publication of Bans" was found in the County's Vol 37. Query: Were couples asked to complete an "Application for a Marriage License" at that time which would provide more information than is contained on the Cuyahoga County Marriage Record? If so, where are the applications to be found? They were married in St. Mathew's Lutheran Church on 25 Sept. 1895 as shown in the church's book of marriages. Thanks George Houston

    2. Sandy Rozhon
    3. Does anyone know who the father is of Clark S. Gates (born approx. 1813, died 1885 in Brooklyn, Cuyahoga County)? Clark married Sarah Ann Hinckley in 1835 and had at least 6 children. He later married Christina or Christiana ACKER (who previously had married David Johnson, Simeon Enos, and Milton Clark). I found him in the 1870 census residing in the immediate vicinity of Jeremiah Gates, Charles Gates, and Lafayette Gates. (Jeremiah being the father of Charles and the grandfather of Lafayette). Is Clark Jeremiah's son or a nephew (and son of Nathaniel Gates, Jeremiah's brother?) Any help would be appreciated. Sandy

    1. Re: [OHCUYAHO] Will - Obtaining One
    2. Sarah
    3. Now I have no idea if this was a national practice, but I think it would be. All wills are sent to the county clerk to be filed at the time they are made. After a person dies, the wills are probated and recorded again. The best place to start would be with the County Courthouse. You go to the Will Index book which is alphabetical by name, and gives the location in the Wills book. I imagine they were typed in the 70s, all the early ones are usually beautifully handwritten. Hope that helps. I imagine a call to the County Clerk's office would be your best bet. Somewhere in USGenweb they should have that address, and maybe even instructions on getting a will.
