    1. JEWETT, Moses, Oct 3, 1788 Hollis NH - 1850 ? Cleveland ?
    2. Looking for info on Moses JEWETT, b. Oct 3, 1788, Hollis NH, moved to Conn at unknown age., married Eunice ANDREWS, b. 1792, probably there. Family story says they came to Cleveland in 1808. Have record of his buying a burial plot there in 1810, so he was there at least that early. Children Esther A. b. 1813; George A. b. 1816; Lydia A, b. 1818; Alvah b. 1821; Charles Porter b. 1825; Eunice b. May 30, 1828; Mary Jane, b. 1830; Julia Towsley, b. 1833. The children at least through Alvah were born in Cleveland. Eunice, my ancestor, was born in Newburgh (now Newburgh Heights). In Newburgh, the family lived on a farm on Miles Ave, and he was a prominent farmer, as he had been prominent in Cleveland, though I do not yet know his occupation there. Apparently his sons were prominent businessmen and his daughters moved in society. His wife died in 1832, and in 1836 he married Adeline ADAMS. She had eight children of her own. Moses and Adeline had two children together, both of whom died as infants. Charles Porter JEWETT married his stepsister Adeline ADAMS. Oddly enough, several of the ADAMS children and their families are buried in the plot Moses JEWETT purchased, but he is not. I have not been able to find his burial place. Some stories indicate he died in 1850. However, the place varies. One says Cleveland. An obituary for his daughter Eunice's husband Nicholas S. BASTION states that before their marriage in 1851, Eunice lived in Dayton, OH with her father. This implies he was still alive then. Numerous queries in that area have turned up nothing. Neither have queries in the Cleveland area. I would appreciate any information at all on Moses JEWETT, either on his early life in Cleveland, or on his death. Thank you, Doris Waggoner Seattle

    3. The Cleveland Necrology file has this: Id#: 0165068 Name: Jewett, Moses Date: 1850 Source: Cemetery record; Cleveland Necrology File, Reel #042. Notes: age 62. Harvard Grove Cemetery Cleveland, O. So it would seem that he is buried in that cemetery. Sandy On 4 Apr 2005 at 1:30, doriswaggoner@juno.com wrote: > > Looking for info on Moses JEWETT, b. 3. Doris, I pasted a page below for the Hume family page, I didn't see Moses or Eunice either one, but there are Andrew/Andrews & Jewett listed.Another Jewett name might ring a bell with you. This has very early marriages for CT. I found out after many years of searching that my Andrews was actually Andrew, the spelling changed in the 1850 & 60's. 2. If you go to the Cuyahoga County recorder's office at this site http://recorder.cuyahogacounty.us/ Go to general search, type in an earlier date like 01/01/1900 and then either John Hegedish or *** Hegedish and you'll see there are a few property deeds there for John and Mary Hegedish. If you have trouble with the above site just google Cuyahoga county recorder and click on the first one that comes up. 3. Of the 900 HEGEDUS who arrvived via Ellis Island 33 declared their race to be Slovak. It is not uncommon to find names which are common amongst one ethnic group belonging to another. It is doubtful that they would have claimed to be Slovak if the were not! However maybe your HEGEDUS simply came from the area that would become Slovakia after WW I. 2. A list of charter parishioners of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Slovak) Catholic Parish in Cleveland shows a John Hegedish at 1583 Woodland Hills Ave (E. 93rd St.). Jan Hegedus also shows on the annual contributions reports from 1909-15. The 1927 report shows a Maria Hegedus at 3766 E. 91st. St. (could be John's widow). These records would be a pretty clear indication that this Hegedus family considered themselves Slovak. -----Original Message----- From: khorne@adelphia.net To: OHCUYAHO-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, 3 Apr 2005 16:29:42 -0400 Subject: Re: [OHCUYAHO] HEGEDISH Angela, Don't know if you have any other census, other than 1920 1900 26-wd Cleveland, living at 1627 Woodland Hills HEGDISH, John, June 1869, 30, married 4 yrs, b. I always thought it odd that they would even know about those things, since they lived in Cleveland. 3. Website for those researching the Civilian Conservation Corps. You can locate the camps anywhere in USA. Also information on how to get CCC service papers. http://www.cccalumni.org/ Here is an interesting article about daily life in the CCC: http://web.ulib.csuohio.edu/ccc/camp.html Hope these help someone. My father-in-law served in the CCC near Lisbon Ohio. We still have some pictures of his days in the camp. There is also a book available with information called "The Tree Army". It is available on the CCC website store.
