Anyone have info on these families? 1910 Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Ward 15 William Smith age 59 born Germany Annie age 55 born Ohio Annie...........age 32 George.........age 24 WILLIAM ...age 20 (accurate insofar as 1920 census, WW1 draft card, and grandpa's death certificate) Could NOT find the above family in 1900....Hope they're around in the same area... 1900 Lagrange, Lorain, OH Stella..........age 48 Anna..........age 20 Flossie........age 13 LEWIS.......age 11 (Grandpa's name was William LOUIS Smith, born 1889 per his WW1 draft record. Does this census give month of birth as August??) Fanny..........age 10 Ray.............age 7 Melvin Pier.....age 26
Did Augusta remarry? Usually you could do a wildcard search on the cuyahoga county obits and if they had friends/relatives there their obit may have shown up, but I tried to pull up Dehrbach and Schmidt and found neither. Now that doesn't mean they aren't there, it just means I couldn't find them without a lot more info from you. But the obits I looked at maybe don't have Lorain County. The list you are inquiring to is Cuyahoga county, not Lorain County, so they may not know. Bureau of Vital Statistics "may" have the births, but you'd have to contact them and specifically provide a date and ask for that. Whereas the Ohio deaths (all counties) are listed as the "Ohio Death Index" online. And, depending on where you ask you might be charged only for copies made. The only other lead you gave is John Schmidt and that's a popular name. How about the last names of the 2 daughters, do you have those? As an aside, you might want to ask the Cleveland Public Library for phone book information as I suspect they might have had a phone, and that would give you an address that you could then check with the property appraiser's website and see if by chance those folks owned land, or handed down the land. Maybe I read your comments wrong, but If world war 1 registration was 1918, and Wilhelm was not in the 1910 census (his wife was by herself), then, seems to me that you can't determine Wilhelm was deceased by 1910. Does his registration say he had a wife at the time he signed that form? Anyway, I'd suggest you check some of your info with Lorraine County. Have you secured the information you have on hand from churches there in Lorraine County? christie "W. D. If so, who are the parents? Also interested in Obituary info, if possible, for this couple. Other children were: John, Clara, Florence. My grandfather stated, on his WW 1 draft registration card, when he was working for the RR in Lowndes County, Mississippi, that he was born August 17, 1889 and was from Lorain County, Ohio. Wilhelm/William Schmidt and Augusta (Dehrbach) Smith were in Lorain, Lorain Co Ohio in 1900 and 1910, however, in 1910 Augusta C. is head of household. Wilhelm has apparently died. Also, is there naturalization records for both Wilhelm and Augusta? Any information that will help me prove my grandfather's family will be greatly appreciated! He died March 26, 1930 in Tupelo, Lee County, MS - just a few days before my father was born. It has taken us YEARS to get this far. I've located 77 of 122 family members in cemeteries in the Cleveland area and plan to visit about 35 of those graves in the near future. Unfortunately 4 direct line ancestors (gg grandparents) have escaped. If anyone can help me find them I would be very grateful. Joseph Gabel (d: April 2, 1904) and wife Teresa (Foster) Gabel (Lived in Olmsted 1860, 1870 & 1880) John Wirtz and wife Mary (Goebel) Wirtz (Lived in Rockport in 1880) Other family close family members are buried in Calvary, Holy Cross, Woodvale, St. Marys, St. Mary of the Falls and one in Adelbert's. Thanks, Gordon
The first two township histories have been added to the new Cuyahoga County, OH website at: _www.rootsweb.com/~ohcuyah3/_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohcuyah3/) Scroll down the left-hand column to Township Histories. If you have sent to me a township history and it is not uploaded yet, please be patient with me. It's coming. Thank you for your assistance in transcribing these townships. More are being worked on little-by-little. Enjoy. Denise

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. I believe the death certificates for the 1950s in Ohio are in Columbus, Ohio (Capitol) at the Bureau of Vital Statistics. Joanne

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.
You can do this a couple of ways first Stark county library at http://www.stark.lib.oh.us/ They have an online request form and only charge 25 to 50 cents, they say three week turnaround. Then there is Akron Library or Ohio Historical Society http://www.ohiohistory.org/resource/archlib/ There is an online request form you print out and mail and they cost is $7.00. If the certificate is after Dec 1953 then you have to go through the Ohio Health Dept http://www.odh.state.oh.us/vitalstatistics/vitalstats.aspx There certified copies are $16.50 or you can check to see if the city where the death took place has the certificate and cost there vary. There's another saying that goes something like "With a little help from friends." I have searched and this was a last resort, I much prefer to do it myself. But, I also recognize my limitations on the computer and understand there are people more comfortable with it. Hopefully, there will always be someone willing to help and not just criticize. Thanks for your reply.
