Robert and others, Thank you for your comments/suggestions both public and private. As usual when I read the comments/suggestions of others I thought of other details I should have put into to make this a more effective call for help: My ancestor Anthony Rucki died 26 Dec 1929 in Toledo, Lucas County. His parents are named on his death certificate as: John Rucki & Katarzyna Zalewski. John & Katarzyna are reported to have been born in Poland on his death certificate. Anthony is reported to have be born in Poland on the death certificate but his WWI draft registration card (presumeably filled out by himself) reports his place of birth as Somza, Russia. I've been crossing my fingers that his parents made it to the US with him but I have no proof of this at this point except a brief mention of a John Rucki (Louisa) at 3361 Lagrange in the 1923 Polk directory. My Anthony is also noted there on that year at 2821 Buckeye. This is all far removed from the Cleveland area I understand but having no luck in Lucas County I'm now chasing down Rucki's (John's and Katarzyna's first) outside of Lucas County in hopes of finding some reference of relationship to my Lucas County Anthony Rucki. The obituaries of Anthony Rucki were unique and multiple as he hung himself in the family home. Unfortunately there was no mention in the english language news articles of his suicide and final obituary. As I review the documents I have found about Anthony there is an obituary that is I believe in Polish, Ameryka Echo, Monday 30 Dec 1929, page 8, C. 6. If anyone with a talent to read Polish would be interested in reviewing this for me I can scan a copy by email. I did an extensive search of the Cleveland Public Library; Cleveland Necrology File today with the following wildcards Ruc*, Ruk*, Rue*, etc. but didn't find the John Rucki that I have the death certificate for that died in Cleveland 26 Feb 1936. This would be a good canidate for my Anthony's father timeline wise. In fact I didn't find one Rucki in this database. I subscribe to www.newspaperarchives.com but this collection currently doesn't have newspapers from Cleveland. Does the Cleveland Public Library have their local newspapers on film by chance? If not who might archive such a collection? Again, I appreciate everyone's comments/suggestions. Any further points are always welcome. Do you by any chance know where I can find a birth record of Sept. 1892 in Cleveland. His name Archie Paul Bliss but we do not believe Bliss was his real name. His mother gave him up at age one and he lived for a time at the Protestant Orphan home in cleveland. Do you know where these records might be. It is probably our only hope in finding out if Bliss was his fathers name or not. We have info it wasn't but not confirmed. A totally generous offer! How kind of you to do this! OK, here's a list of what I need...... JUST KIDDING! Maybe you could say what you are willing to do. For instance, if you are close to cemeteries etc. I agree that helping others makes a person feel good. I took pictures of graves for someone and the experience was immensely rewarding. I live in Medina, so if anyone needs anything out this way, let me know. Pat, I believe the poster said that he already had a Death Certificate... but then since the original message was deleted from your reply it is difficult to say for certain. Don't you agree that it is easier to leave the original message in the response so when someone else is adding info to an existing thread? Hello, I have a "Return of a Birth" for my grandmother, born in Cleveland in 1891. It was submitted to The Board of Health of the City of Cleveland. 1891 is pre-printed on the form. The info requested is: DOB, Sex, Color, Nativity, color & age of each parent, place of child's birth (64 Clara St.), Full name of each parent, Name of medical attendant or midwife & the address. Hand written at the top of the form, likely by a clerk--"Filed in Order". I wish I could make out the midwife's name! Oddly, there is no request for the child's name, which was Amanda Johanna Marie Schultz (Dill). I don't know the source of the copy since this was among Granpa's papers. He probably requested it sometime during the 40's or 50's. So, at least by 1891, some sort of birth record was available though, perhaps, not required. Sorry, I can't offer any more help... Will You may want to contact the Cuyahoga County Archives for a look up. or if you live in the area, visit it. http://centralservices.cuyahogacounty.us/archives/default.htm I have quite a few return of birth records from 1893 and on. These records show date of birth, sex, color, nativity of mother & father, their ages. Father's name and mother's maiden name, place of birth of child and medical attendant. When you contact them, give as much info as possible. Seems you ask for it and send money and if they have it they will send it to you. > > christie > > > > "W. D. Take a look at... http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~officer/CuyOhFAQ.html and http://www.ohiohistory.org/resource/archlib/brthdth1.html#birthbetween1867and1908 It might have been required before 1908, but you will find that this requirement was often ignored. IOW, you will be lucky to find a birth record before 1908. You might want to look for church records instead. -- Dennis Kowallek Cincinnati, Ohio [email protected] ******************
