2. I may have found Harry Lee Phillips, but he would have been born much earlier than you said--actually, in about 1866, and died in Cleveland in 1958 at the age of 92. As you mentioned, he was black and born in Virginia. I find him in Cleveland as early as 1910, and before that, in 1900, I find a Harry L. Phillips whose a young child and living in Rappahannock, Virginia with his grandparents, Richard Phillips and I think wife's name Sophie. The child with the same name may have been a nephew of the one born in 1866. If this is the right person, his wife's name was Minnie rather than Mable. I find no record yet of Bernard, but am still looking. In 1930, Harry L. Phillips was 64, and lived with his wife Minnie, and children, Lee B. Phillips, Charlotte D. Phillips, Jessie M. Phillips, as well as his brother-in-law, Corwin C. Gossett (meaning that Minnie's maiden name was probably Gossett).

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. 3. If you don't mind waiting till Thursday I have to go to the Ohio Historical Society to pick up some death certificates for my own research. If you give me a name I'll pick up yours also. For wills the Cuyahoga County Archives house those and you can send them an email request at http://centralservices.cuyahogacounty.us/archives/default.htm There is no charge for them locating the will and only a few dollars copy fee when they send it to you. The will enclose a bill. Cindy Black Family <[email protected]> wrote: Thank you! Very helpful link and advise! 3. This sounds like a truly worthwhile project for Peggy <smile>. But it also catches my interest, and probably that of others, too. I'm not local, and haven't lots of available resources, but I did have a couple of clarifying questions. The answers might help Peggy and others, too. Just recapping, so I'm sure I'm understanding........ In Rappahannock Co VA, there is a Henry Lee Phillips Sr who married a lady probably named Mable. They had 10 children, and one of those children was a son named Harry Lee Phillips[Jr], born 1880s/1890s. This Harry Lee [Jr] moved away in the 1920s, probably to somewhere in the vicinity of Cleveland. At the very least, his address in your dad's address book in the 1940s was a Cleveland address. And this Harry Jr had at least one son you know of, named Bernard. Have I got the basics straight, or have I befuddled things? Have I skipped a generation or confused the 'Henry Lee Phillips' men? It's been that kind of a day, and I certainly could have......... Also, the odds are slim to none that any of the family is still at that Cleveland address. If they were, I suspect you would have found them long ago. Can you provide that address from your dad's old address book? It can at least help narrow down the part of Cleveland they were in at that time. And it may help find them in the 1930 census. Also, city directories. This can help a lot, especially with a fairly common name like 'Harry Phillips'. Here's truly hoping you can find some of the descendants of this Harry, and that they can join you all at the reunions. Linda S. 3. Debbie This is a hard one. You may get some help from the Cuyahoga County Archives at http://centralservices.cuyahogacounty.us/archives/. They would have birth record indices there. Or at least maybe someone there can steer you in the right direction. We also have a family member that gave up a child at on year old in the 1940s. I would think this information would be nearly impossible to track down. Good luck!
