But the index does not include occupations. -- Dennis Kowallek Cincinnati, Ohio [email protected] ******************

Could someone please look up August LINN in the 1930 census for Cuyahoga County? His wife's name would be Katherine (or Katie). I want to know what is listed for his occupation and if there were any children. Thanks, Sandy
yes, what threw me was that there was a difference of about 8 years in his age from one marriage to the next (or at least that's the way I saw it), so I wasn't sure if they were the same person or not. Sandy Rozhon <[email protected]> wrote: As noted in some earlier messages, a couple of people have found August in the 1930 census with Katherine and her two children from a prior marriage. August was married first to Katherine Gross. She had been married before August to someone named Schoek. First name unknown. Katherine died in 1959, afterwhich August married Stephanie Tatka, who likewise was married earlier (that was to Albert Smolensky). Stephanie was married to Albert in 1930 so August Linn would have either been married to someone else or been single, but I was unable to find him in Ohio in 1930. Maybe August was in the military, or maybe he had another name or even called himself Gust/Gus. I would check the marriage records of August and Stephanie to see when they married and where they were living. The 1910 census indicates August was 5 years old, so in 1930 he would have been age 25, right? So maybe he was in the military in 1930 or maybe living with a relative, or maybe just between places and traveling, trying out different jobs maybe outside of Ohio. I don't think he would show up with any family until 1940. Seems he married Stephanie so it was a second marriage for her, so probably (I didn't check) she was older and had stepchildren from Smolensky. August's obit seems to indicate he had no children of his own. Well, that's "my" take on it anyway. christie fox [email protected] Id#: 0606354 Name: Linn, August Date: Aug 25 1962 Source: Plain Dealer; Cleveland Necrology File, Reel #130. Notes: Linn. Listers, I've recently received information on a marriage and a couple of baptisms of relatives of William J Murray, my ggrandfather. I'm interested in finding out more about the following individuals - whether there is a family connection to my Murrays. Thomas CLARK Helen GALVAN Stephen WHITTMAN Joann DARCY All would have been Roman Catholics, very possibly attending St. Augustine Church in Cleveland, and adults, from about 1865 - 1870. They were godparents for William Murray and his sister Elizabeth Murray. In addition, Anna CROSS Eleanor WEIDNER were witnesses to the marriage of William Fletcher and Catherine Murray in 1899. Probably Catholics, possibly attending St. Augustine. If these names sound familiar I'd be interested in hearing from you. I have a William James Murray in my file, his father was William Murray, born 9-4-1866 and died about 1935 in Jersey City, NJ, and William James mother was Mary. I've searched into the witnesses at themarriage of my grandfather. One females in mine was a sister of the bride but with her maiden name (yours might be a sister with a married name). One male was the brother. Another male was the person who was their naturalization sponsor and who was from the same country as my grandfather. One famale was from another family by the same surname (not in our line) with a married name. So those are ideas to look at. ....Sure people might be able to pull the names but probably won't know or be able to find out the connection. You "may" be able to find a connection to one or two from the obituaries. And they might have been a neighbor (may be able to find that out from looking at the addresses on the census, but that may be too long ago to tell). christie [email protected] wrote: Listers, I've recently received information on a marriage and a couple of baptisms of relatives of William J Murray, my ggrandfather. Sorry, I wasn't thinking, and should have included more information. Thanks for all the responses! I appreciate the help. Isabelle Hall is the daughter of George and Orlando, sister to James C. b. 1845 (NJ), Elizabeth Leighton b. 1846 (NJ), Florence Hinkley b. 1855 (NJ), Louis Hall b. 1858 (MO), Charles Hall b.1861 (OH). She would have gotten married between 1870 (after the census) and 1880. The family stayed in Cleveland, I am assuming she did also. There is no mention of her in anyone's obits. I have complete information on everyone else. Isabelle's information is a total blank, but she did not die early (1900 census Orlando indicates her children are alive). Elizabeth named her third daughter after Isabelle. Hello all, I was hoping someone reading this has an Isabelle (Hall) marrying into their family, born 1853 in New Jersey. She would have gotten married after 1870, somewhere in the Cleveland area. I've tried the Cleveland marriage index, but all have lead to dead ends. Thanks, Stacey
Yes, there is Acacia Memorial Park, started in 1927. It is the only cemetery in Ohio exclusively for Masons and Eastern Stars. Although all the markers are flush to the ground, it has lovely, old tall trees and a pleasing ambiance. The address: S.O.M. Center at Gates Mills Boulevard Circle, Mayfield Heights, Ohio 44124 Phone: 1-440-442-0666 Best of luck with your research. Donna: The marriage index link is at: http://probate.cuyahogacounty.us/ml/ I searched for a John Martin and Ruth Ashley but didn't find any, so I searched just on John Martin marrying a Ruth. There is a John Martin who married a Ruth Ashby (perhaps her last name was spelled incorrectly). That is in Volume 155 page 469, which would be 1928-1929, which fits with her being 31 at her first marriage. So, this is probably them. You can request the marriage record from the Cuyahoga County archive by emailing them at : [email protected] There is no charge for this. Give them the names, the volume and page number and your mailing address and they'll mail it out to you.
