    1. Re: [OHCUYAHO] Ohio Death Certificates 1908-1953 at Cleveland Public Library (downtown)
    2. Anna: They are now both online and at the library. Michelle Day is pointing out that the Cleveland Public Library now has the actual films at the library, which you can view in person or order via email. However, Clem Ras pointed out the following yesterday: Within the past month, FamilySearch Labs has made the Ohio Death Certificates 1909-1953 available online from: http://www.familysearchlabs.org/ Click on Record Search. You will have to sign up for a logon. I received mine in less than a day. Clem Ras The Family Search Labs is the group responsible for creating and testing the new LDS website that we have heard so much about - where they will post the digital images of all of their microfilmed records eventually. The above website is a pilot program and they are asking for suggestions and comments to make the site better as you search and view the information that is there. They have a few items there already - Ohio Deaths 1909-1953 (indexed and searchable), the World War II Draft Cards (not indexed but browsable by State and then alphabetically), and the 1900 census for a few states, as well as a few other databases for other states. Like Clem, I've been working with the Ohio Deaths at the above site all weekend, and all I can say is that it's fabulous! However, for those people that you can't find online, it will still be equally as nice to be able to go down to the Cleveland Public Library and do a manual search of the indexes. This was a red-letter weekend for people in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County looking for death records! 1. [OHCUYAHO] Eagles have perched at Woodland Cemetery, Cleveland, OH August 4, 2007
    2. Michelle A Day
    3. Dear Friends and Fellow Researchers, I am writing to inform you of the eagle dedication ceremony at Woodland Cemetery. [Please excuse any duplication since I have email addresses cross-referenced on several lists.] CEREMONY TO RESTORE EAGLES ON GRAVES OF TWO CIVIL WAR OFFICERS AT WOODLAND CEMETERY The missing carved stone eagles marking the graves of two Civil War officers buried at Woodland Cemetery, 6901 Woodland Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio have been recreated by Milano Monuments and will be available for viewing during a brief public ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m. on August 4, 2007. The main Cemetery entrance is on Woodland Avenue. Parking is available in the cemetery and on side streets. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. Col. William R. Creighton and Lt. Col. Orrin J. Crane were buried next to each other in the mid-1860s and the stone eagles perched atop each grave monument had long disappeared before being restored this year. Creighton and Crane were volunteers with The Seventh Ohio Volunteer Infantry and were among the 12 of 13 officers killed on November 27, 1863 when the Seventh was ordered to take Taylor’s Ridge near Ringgold, Georgia. Their bodies were returned to Cleveland and lay in state in City Hall before burial in Woodland. For more information, visit the Woodland Cemetery website at www.rootsweb.com/~ohclecem/woodlandcemetery.html. Bring a lawn chair and picnic lunch. Come visit your relatives or to view this historic Cleveland Cemetery. If you have any questions, please email me. I hope to see you at Woodland Cemetery on Saturday August 4 at 11:00am for the wonderful dedication ceremony. Sincerely, Michelle A Day http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohclecem/woodlandcemetery.html

    1. [OHCUYAHO] Ohio Death Certificates 1908-1953 at Cleveland Public Library (downtown)
    2. Michelle A Day
    3. I thought I would forward this along to everyone. I had asked the CPL to purchase the death certificates for the Northeast Ohio Region and the library was able to obtain them. Also, the Cleveland Public Library has the Ohio Grave Registration Cards (Veteran cards) while the Cuyahoga County Archives has just the Cuyahoga Grave Registration Cards. The Ohio cards are different and have more information then the Cuyahoga County cards and the only place to access the Ohio cards was in Columbus. Enjoy!! Michelle A Day http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohclecem/woodlandcemetery.html Hi, Michelle-- The Ohio Death Certificates (12/20/1908-12/31/1953) are now available. Access is self-serve in the Microform Center. Thanks again for bringing this resource to my attention. Below is the info we are posting on our Web site next week. Best regards, Michael Ohio Death Certificates 1908-1953 What: Cleveland Public Library patrons can now view and copy any death certificate issued in the state of Ohio from December 20, 1908, through December 31, 1953. How to locate a date of death using available indexes: If you do not know the date of death, first try finding the date in the online Ohio Death Certificate Index, which covers 1913-1944: http://www.ohiohistory.org/dindex/. You may also search the microfilm indexes to the Death Certificates (1908-1953) in the Microform Center to find an exact death date. 1. [OHCUYAHO] Immaculate Heart of Mary parish fire of 1908
    2. Mark and Trina Galauner
    3. Hello Does anyone out there remember the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish fire of 1908? The pastor, Fr. Anton Kolaszewski, was rescued by the sexton of the church whose name was John Gosrurnski. I believe the name was mispelled and that he is actually my great grandfather, John Gosiorowski. However, there were 2 John Gosiorowskis living in the area at that time. I am trying to prove that this sexton was my great grandfather. Here are the reasons... The other John Gosiorowski was about 33 years old and most times listed as a painter by trade. My John Gosiorowski was 19 years old and had been listed as having odd jobs and also was married in 1907 by Fr. Kolaszewski in addition to his parents and inlaws being extremely instrumental in the forming of the Immaculate Heart parish. (wouldn't he have made a likely sexton?) What I'd like to know is there anyone who would have records of this fire (besides newspaper articles, I've checked them) or records of exactly who this sexton was at that time? Would this be in Immaculate Heart church records? Thanks to anyone who can lead me in the right direction! Trina
