The Chenoweth family had land in that county. Sarah was born 12May1747, the daughter of Thomas Chenoweth.(Tyler Qtrly-Vol 3,pp190,191). The Chenoweths originally lived near Joppa, Md. Thomas father John Chinoweth's will was probated in Frederick Co, VA., 6May1746. Some researchers say the marriage was to Mary Chenoweth, to whom he was certainly married later. 1767, 4 Oct, Son George born in Maryland. 1770, June Court Frederick Co, (Minute Bk) Timothy Downing appt constable, Cumberland Hundred. 1772---son William born in Maryland, m.Malinda Barton in Mason Co,KY 1797. DORCAS DOWNING--The John Downing Bible shows the following entry: "Ellis, the first born married Dorcas, the daughter of Tymothy and Mary Downing, 6 Feb 1792. He departed this life 16 Sep 1800, aged 29 years, 7 months and 15 days". Timothy Downing appears on their marriage bond as the bondsman. Mason Co.,Ky. Order Book D, p44 (Oct Court 1800) appoints Timothy Downing, Luther Calvin, James Turner and Robert Downing as appraisers of the estate of Ellis Downing, deceased. Page 43 of same Book appoints John Downing as administrator of the estate, Dorcas Downing, the widow of the deceased being personally present and relinquishes her right of administration. James Downing provided security bond. Mason Co., Ky. Will Book B, pp111-117, dated Sep 1801 is an inventory and account of sale of the Ellis Downing estate, appraisers were Timothy and Robert Downing. Among those buying items were John, James and Joseph Downing. Mason Co.,Ky. Order Book C, p106 (April Court 1810) shows John Downing, administrator of Ellis Downing, deceased, making payments to Dorkus (sic) Downing widow and for taxes on land in Ohio. Clermont Co.,Ohio Deed Book 1, pp313-314, dated 21 Feb 1810 shows a purchase of land in Clermont Co. by Timothy Downing, John, Mary, Susannah and Ruth Downing of Mason Co.,Ky. Brown Co., Ohio Deed Book A, pp304-305, pp339-340 and pp348-351 dated 4 & 5 Nov 1818 refer to division of land in Brown Co. between Dorcas Downing; John Downing and Sallie, his wife; Asa Jones and Mary, his wife; Elijah Jones and Ruth, his wife; and Mark Armacost and Susan, his wife; the heirs of Ellis Downing, dec'd, all of Brown County. The heirs personally appeared and signed the deeds. The children of Ellis and Dorcas were married in Ohio : John Downing to Sarah Jones, 2 Jan 1817 in Clermont Co. Timothy a widower at the time. A Tuchahoe Co. is referenced which never existed, there is a Tuchahoe Creek on the Eastern Shore of Md. A Tuckahoe church in NW VA.
