    3. The Delaware River had a few Dutch and was considered New Netherlands when a ship of Swedes arrivided in 1838 under ex Dutch gov Minuit. 1638-56 was the era of the weak penal colony of New Sweden, whose governor and church were on an island s e Philadelphia [airport] and the colony extended south to mid Del,and to a fort in very sw NJ. At Manhattan,in 1656,the DUTCH gathered their militia, and ships from the city of Amerstdam, and took control of this thorn in their side. 1664 the English took New Netherlands, including the Delaware. 1667 the Dutch retook it a short while. Some records survive from the rule of all three. The English ruled both banks from Upland-Chester Co,Pa. 1675 was the 1st ship of Anglo-Irish Quakers to Salem under Fenwick. 1679 was Quakers from London and Yorkshire, who settled Burlington,NJ and started a monthly Quaker meeting for all the rivers records-survivies. 1682,Wm Penn, himself, crossed on the "Welcome ' with Dr Thomas Wynne[mine]. He uprooted some of the SWEDES from the site of Philadelphia, but giving them 2 acres in a rural area for 1 acre where he laid out Philadelphia. Hans and Ella Olafsdatter crossed to very sw Burlington Co,NJ [pENNSAUKEN Creek]. 1695 James Steelman moved to the Great Harbor,NJ shore area. Say,1750's a Blackman's Presbyterian Meeting house was [?] near English Creek and Bargaintown,NJ and the circut minister, from the mid-NJ iNDIANS. It is written that Sarah Blackman Collins wanted to move inland for she had lost 3 brothers a sea.
