    1. Hike on dam of Lake Harsha,East Fork Park s e Batavia twnsp,
    2. HERMON B FAGLEY
    3. Sources of data-Evert's 1880 history and "my Mom told me" 2,200 acre flood control Lake Harsha was built 1970-75 within 10,000 acre East Fork State park.. Much of the area of the Lake, and park, had been settled by Jerseymen from old Gloucester Co,NJ ,and e Princeton NJ. 1803+ A natural hill a mile long called "the old SLADE farm, when added to a modern short dam of the East Fork of the Little Miami River,sw Batavia twnsp creeated a -roughly- hourglass lake, with the west pool of 1000 acres at the dam. Then came a narrow place- now called Tate [twnsp] boat launch, and a 2nd wide place of 1000 acres in s Williamsburg, and n Tate Township. [not in view from dam.] Slade Road runs west from RT 222 to the dam, and allows a beautiful drive over the dam,and the Slade farm, and the saddle dam, ,and, if was extended a bit would pass the Lee Spinnelli, and the Mason-Winner, and Greenbrier Methodist cemetary. Slade Rd, between Rt 222 and the dam, "may" have passed Richard and Robert Doughty's, and the Strimple place. South from the true dam,or the boat ramp nearby can be seen Back,Ulrey's,and Corker's runs entering from the south like fingers. Back run had Wm Jeffer's making nail, and Tingley,Jr's tannery, and my grandpa Tib Brown's school no 8 of Monroe Twnsp. Ulrey's Run also flows from Monroe Twnsp, into Tate, and had the 1st,1798,settlement in the lake bounds. Teegarden,Ulrey,Conn,Gerrard, Chandler,Sheppard, Pinkham to name a few. Mostly hunter types once from sw most Pa. Corker's Run has the mother church of the Jersey colony,Old Bethel Methodist. Tuckerton NJ Jenkins and White, Wm Simonds, James Blackwood,John Conover, John and Robert Leeds, more. 5 acres to tended cemetart, and an 1817 frame church remodled in 1865. Bantam lies between Ulrey's and Corker's, and was Benj Ely's store and p.o. ,Hitch's making wagon,Eben Hill teaching school, and Pres Grant's Simpson's going to Presbyterian church. Boyhood farm of Rev carlely@juno.com who has Leeds twice, and 1781 Galloway twnsp,NJ ELY, and Gest's and Dimmitt's down creek from the dam,1798. I call that western big pool of water by the dam-1000 acres- ELK LICK. Elk Lick village was flooded and removed, but after James Blackman>>>>Earl Slade's frame was rebuilt in Sharon Woods park village, n e Cincinnati. Atop the visable island was Elk Lick 1 room school, where Lee Phillips and JB Whitt were 1st schooled. JB's wife,Aileen,is Clermont genealogy's treasure, authoring 14 resource books, and she is know to hike the dam,at times. You can see, from the saddle dam,or outlooks on the ol Slade farm, the Tate beach. That was the homesite of Rev John and Sarah Blackman Collins, who led,in 1803,the 1st of 100 + families from Atlantic Co,NJ. Their stone, and their son's brick mansion, survivied til the Corps of Engineer's wrecking ball 1970's. Next place east, owned by absentee Josiah Albertson,of the "Blue Anchor"INN of mid NJ'S pines had his kinsman, THOMAS STRING. .Noah Conover m String's wife Next east,is the mill site of Isaac and Sophia Somers Higbee, and Cornelius McCollum and Leeds WIFE. Grant Snider, and Carson Henderson also lived there, and Steelman ,BINNINGS,and Burnet's up the hill Across, and n e was my Samuel Ely m 1804 NJ Rachel Leeds, and nw,her sister,Betsy Leeds Wilson. To the nw of them was James Ewan, mentioned by Mrs Daniel Doughty, in the Atlantic Co,NJ Hist Soc quarterly. John Allen, hermit, mined gold on EWAN. Some of my Hitch uncles lived near the Island, where later Renskie and Wretzer sp?' lived. Daddy Joe Baughman farmed on Slab Camp, just east of the saddle dam. My Mom played at Gracie BAUGHMAN'S WEDDING there in 1941,when she m Jim Hulick. Gracie was my Mom's very last visiter,at home before her death. 2-3 hours later,I diald 911 1 last time. [tears]. There was a steep, narrow, lonely road up the hill from Baughman's,or where the saddle dam ends. 1942-46, the Ireton's and my parents took the Spinelli's home up that hill, and we would play with Coolgrandmah@yahoo.com. Well, she was a girl. We would play with her twin brother, and bro,Lee. And,we are back to the Winner-Mason-Greenbrier neighborhood without mentioning the Atchley's,Curless,Harden's,Lukemeyer's,Chamber's, Davis, etc junt north,up that boat ramp hill from near Elk Lick Island, and the Hitches. Boy,wish I'd been able to exersise hiking on the dam as long as it's taked to type this. Is typing considered cardiac rehab?
