Nancy Melvin who married Elijah Hicks in 1823 is my 3rd great grandmother. Census records show that she was born in MD. A loose paper listing births and deaths (author unknown, but found in the Family Bible of her son, Henry Melvin Hicks) states that "Nancy Melvin was born 24 Jun 1806". A newspaper announcement in 1900 of the 50th wedding anniversary of Henry Melvin and Hannah Francis (Owens) Hicks stated that among those present were "Mr James Melvin of Brooksville, KY. The latter was present at the wedding 50 years ago, which was performed at the old Owens homestead opposite Utopia in KY" I don't have any other definite info on her but a number of "presumptions" that I'm using as a working hypothesis. John Melvin signed her marriage bond, so was probably father or brother. Census data puts John with the same birth year as Nancy, so they could be twins and are at least siblings. Will be glad to share any information I have and would like to here more about your Melvins.
