    1. Old houses in Bethel,Tate Tns,Clermont,in 1948
    2. Bethel was 150 years old in 1848. I was 9 and have some memory of old,2 story, federal brick homes-many of which are now gone. Corrine Lukens obit at 102 in Fla is online.Mrs Lukens raised her children on N East Street in one of those old bricks. Memory is that Smith G Clarke,of Houghton and Nancy Riley Clark, built it. Jim Chandler lived there in 1970. Former Bethel mayor,Judy Smith Spiller,[Paul] lived in an old brick on Spring Street built in the 1830's by Samuel and -Sinks Justice, who gave part of his farm for the Tate Township cemetary off s East Street.Thomas Medary Iden sold there in 1870,and Volney Moore lived there in 1970. Volney's 80 year old son,Rex Moore's obit is on-line. I tried once to write a padgent about an old brick that once stood at the se corner of Plane [Scyamore tree] and Charity [Denham] Sts. Built by US Senator Thomas and Rachel Davis Morris, and sold in the 1840's by them to Jesse Root and Hannah Simpson Grant. BNirthplace in 1848 of 'Buckeye" Grant, son of Gen-Pres US and Julia Dent Grant. Also house where US Rep-Mexican War Gen Thomas Hamer [Hamersville] was trained by Morris to be a lawyer. Across Plane, east of the ne corner, was a 2 story frame, with a door on both ends of the front, which was John Ross Tice's,and then Hamilton Allen's stagecoach inn. 2 old ladies lived there in 1948. East of it was an old brick, that has been Dr Charles Simmons, and then Dr Mendoza's office, and is now a vet's. W Plane had an old brick in the forks of Ohio Rts 125 and 232. Ohio Turnpike and Bethel-New Richmond turnpike. Miss Jane Cox ran both tollgates, and kept an inn. Gracie Allen and family lived there 1948. Rex and Gene Moore ran a later business there. East,at Frisch's was an old Brick. Bethel's founder,Obed and Mary Ball Denham's dau wed to Davis Crane, lived there. And then,1900,Hibbitts, and 1948-56+ Fred Fannin. West was a wider old brick,"with" windows on the ends. 2 rooms wide. John Durham in 1870. 1948 Harold Browne,Stella Rinehart, and Sharon Mosbacker lived there. There will be at least 1 more of Bethel's old houses II can remember.

    2. Hermon, do you know if the Cranes in Clermont were related to the Cranes in Sycamore Twp/Montgomery area of Hamilton County? The names are so similar (Davis/David, Sears/Cyrus, Oliver in both), they all come from NJ, and my ancestress, Hetty (Hester) Crane, married William T. Rice of Union Twp, Clermont, but appears to be related to the Hamilton County crowd.
