Grant: Here are a couple of suggestions: (1) Check the land transactions in Adams and Clermont County. For Clermont County, they go back to approximately 1800 (I am not sure about Adams County). A deed might show the place where your ancestor was living when he purchased land in Clermont County. (2) The LDS church has an index (I think it's called the AIS) that indexes surnames by timeframe and locality. There are likely to be a lot of David Whites listed since that is such a common name, however it might narrow down your search a bit.
