Virginia, The Ohio Historical Society has some newspapers from Clermont County at this site: http://www.ohiohistory.org/resource/database/newsfilm/c.txt My forebears were involved in several journalism ventures in Clermont County in the late 1820's. From the Joseph HERRON bio: "When New Richmond became the county-seat, the sons established a weekly county paper, called it the Luminary and placed at its head the motto - Enlightened minds and virtuous manners lead to the gates of glory. They also published a monthly magazine - The Columbian Historian - one of the earliest of its kind. Joseph, having gone as far in his studies as his teachers could lead him, was prevailed upon to take charge of a county school in the Franklin neighborhood. Here the youthful teacher succeeded in inspiring his boys and girls with a love for learning, taught them to declaim and organized a debating society in which not only the farmers sons but the farmers themselves came to listen and to discuss the questions of the day, and Franklin School House became the center of an intelligent community which has remained such to an unusual degree. On Saturdays Mr. HERRON set type in his brothers office for the magazine, committing to memory every article he arranged." I believe that they were also involved with the Ohio Star. Good luck with your search. Ed in CA Researching: Researching: John HERRON m Rebecca CLARKE. I'd like to verify or disprove a rumor that my gr. grandmother met with foul play. My gr. grandmother Sarah Moyer married David Metzger on Oct. 31 1825 when she died he married Sarah's sister Lucinda Moyer on July 21 1831 David was the son of Conrad Metzger of Brown Co. I found David and Sarah on the 1830 census with 2 small children and the after Lucinda and David married could never find where they went.
Ed, Wonder who the Mrs. Mary Gray is that married your Andrew Herron. I have many Grays in Clermont County. Also I have a Mary Clarke who was the first wife of Rev. Ichabod Temple, from Maine. Wonder if our Clarkes may mingle? Also several Clarks married into the Wittum/Witham family from Kittery, York, Maine.
