Wm,of Benj Johnson,of Tom's River,NJ shore, had [memory] 11 kids by 2 wives.5 girls and 6 boys. Several of the girls married in Tom's River,and came to Clermont's US Rt 50 area 1805-12. He was twice my wife's ancestor because of a 1st cousin marriage between his grandchildren.. Wm ,of Benj Smith m Eleanor Irons, m Lucretia Johnson soon after 1790,and 1809 settled on Ohio Rt 133 2 miles south of Rt 50. Samuel Ashton m Hannah Johnson,and pioneered,1811,near Marathon. West on Rt 50 15+ miles,several Lemings sett led in Miami township,and one was married to a Johnson. Some Shumard's were near the Leming's,then 1 moved to a water powered mill on Stonelick Creek. The Shumard's had a brother who stayed back in NJ ,who married the youngest daughter of Wm Johnson.I've seen it spelled with a Ch,and I subscribed to a [email protected] group online awhile.
