Leonard Raper was a soldier in the British army, and was among the men surrendered by Cornwallis at Yorktown. He was a good man and became a worthy citizen of the Republic. He and his wife, Temperance, (Holly) were among the first settlers in the Concord neighborhood. He followed teaching for many years and died March 18, 1833, aged eight-one. Of his sons Holly became a sheriff, and William H., a Methodist preacher of distinction. His four daughters were married as follows: Elizabeth to John Kain, Margaret to John Randall, Sarah to Thomas Foster and Mary to James Kain. John Charles Tippet johntippet@cox.net
