In the book "Ancestry and Descendants of the Nassau-Siegen Immigrants to Virginia 1714-1750 there is an Elizabeth Fishbach married to Melchior Brumback. She was born 1696 and is the daughter of Philip Fishback from Trupbach and his wife Elizabeth Heimbach. Could this be the person you are searching for? There was also her sister Mary Elizabeth Fishbach born 1687 and in this same book it suggests Melchior's wife could have ben either one of them. Don't you love siblings being name the same. I may have posed this question previously, but can't find it in my "sent" mail. If I have, I apologize to those who have already seen it. Maybe there is new information since then... Re: the WEST family in Brown and Clermont counties. Has a connection been found to a Thomas West b 19 Dec 1785 (possibly in PA) and d 5 Apr 1878 in Brown Co, OH. who married Barbara GRAY about 1806-1810. I have found 2 sons for them: John West (b unknown) and Levi West (b ca 1817 d 121 May 1835). Thomas' father's name is unknown, but his mother was Ellen Jones, a daughter of Jacob Jones who d 1815 in Clermont Co. I am at a dead end concerning this WEST family, so any suggestions or help would be appreciated. List, Sorry for the late reply to this message from September. I have a Mary Elizabeth FISHBACH who married Melchior BRUMBACH. Estimated date of birth for Mary Elizabeth would be 1700. Melchior was probably born in Germany. This family eventually married into the Neuenschwanger family. If anyone can connect Mary Elizabeth to some parents, I would be grateful. Stonelick twnsp, mid Clermont, has a Benton Road west of Owensville, crossing US Rt 50. Clermont Co commisioner abt 1970 Ralph Houser's wife was a Benton. She wrote a genealogy article for the 1980 History of Clermont. Her sister m a Carlier. Her sons have an office on US Rt 68 s of Mt Orab, and rest homes in Bethel and West Union. Her Benton's were 'not" in Clermont before 1900. Benton Rd was so-named about 1950 when Clermont got road signs for county roads.
BENTON Surname of Clermont & Brown County, Ohio and or Northwest Territory: Has anybody come across the BENTON surname in this area before 1820 in their research? Dear "site", Sue, Pat, and "interested": Hello. Thanks for the messages. I never saw, found, observed, any actual Rev War Vet type stones, nor DAR type stones, nor Military Organization type stones, on or by the graves of John Short Sr (Rev War Vet), or that of John Wheeler Sr (Rev War Vet); nor have I had any information from anyone else, or their recording, that such markings ever existed. All I ever saw was the standard era gravestone. The cemetery where they are buried, The Short Cemetery ("indicated" as the Wheeler-Short Cemetery in 1950's by the DAR for recording/bookkeeping purposes) was always a private cemetery (owned by the Shorts 1813 - 1847), and was always on private land upto its distruction in 1993.It had also hung wallow for quite a few years after the fine ownership of the Cooper family had ceased, whereas a "sub-division" had started and failed. Its only protection was that, if any, afforded by the government of the township and county. It was completly erased from the earths service, becoming a manicured rear/side yard of a new home. Only the "remains, if any, of any of the approx twenty persons buried below, would note their final resting place; - - - - - and then only if so noted for history; - - - - - and then only untill history forgets. Above ground, no cemetery exists. A few of the larger stones, whole, or broken, were piled under one of the old large trees. Even the persons who! wrecked this graveyard, and said they sure didn't know it was a graveyard, must have had a little sense, as they scratched their brows and wondered what all of these gravestones and marker stones were doing in their way???? I'm afraid that getting "regular" DAR markings, or "regular" government markings, would be an almost impossible task, especially for marking graves in a Cemetery which no longer exists. I would like to see it done! Yes! Take care. Regards, Dick
Dear Pat, Bob, Marie, Barb, "site", and ?: Hello. Sorry about your "call down". I told you all that I was going downhill, which right now has 2 inches, plus 7 . 7 inches, plus 4 inches, of good ole' Hoosier fast and furious snow on it; temperature at .06. When John Short Sr ( 1759/61 - 1836) died he ordered that his son William stay on home place, take care of his mother, Mary, and sister Mary; with the widow Mary to have all personal estate. William was to have use of the homeplace as long as he took care of mother Mary and sister Mary. Then when mother Mary and sister Mary both died, the real property would be devided equally among all of John Short Sr heirs. The mother, Mary, died 1839, and for several years William was settleing the personal items. William, and his family, stayed on the homeplace untill 1846, per "okay" of heirs. He died in 1846 (buried Short Family Cemetery/"Wheeler-Short"), and all of the Ohio heirs and the Indiana heirs sold the homeplace to Benjamin Frazee. William Shorts widow, Charlotte (Hall) Short also sold her "claim" to same,,but keeping about 3 1/4 acres.. Take care. Regards, Dick
Dear Sue, site, etc: Hello. Thanks for the messages. Seems "we" were just over this area/subjects/etc short time ago? Maybe not? As I get older, and dumber, I sure get slower. A lot of the answers to those 4 pages of questions are in my piles of research, and will take time to produce. Of course, some answers I do not have. I can start with some easy ones. The Short Family Cemetery was "renamed" or "identified" in the 1950's, by the DAR, because there were two (and only two) Rev War Veterans buried there, John Short Sr, and John Wheeler Sr. The cemetery was located on Short land, and remained Short land untill 1847; when John Short Sr's son William Short died in 1846, his widow kept about 3 acres (out of the remaining 100 acres), and all of the Indiana and Ohio heirs sold their shares. The DAR "tagged" the cemetery the "Wheeler/Short Cemetery" for their identification as they attempted to list all of the Rev War Vets of the whole area. I was lucky enough to have searched for the cemetery about 4 1/2 times, visit and repair at it about 6, 7, times, and unlucky enough to visit it 3 times after its distruction by a bunch of idiots. Mary Tewell, wife of Sanford Tewell, WAS NOT the daughter of John Short Sr and wife Mary (unknown/unrecorded/undocumented maiden name). They had a daughter named Mary, but she never married. She was classified as an "idiot", which in that era meant she could have been "mentally off", or worse, - - - - - - or merely "deaf and dumb", or such. Samuel Short, son of John Short Sr and Mary ( ? ), married 1806 Mason Co Ky, to Frances Tewell. I "indicate" Sanford Tewell as "probable" brother to Frances. I would "guess" Barton Tewell, or John Tewell, both somewhat older than Sanford, as one being a parent, or both older brothers? I never researched them. Sanford Tewells wife, Mary ( ? ), died 1842, Clermont Co Ohio, buried Short Family Cemetery. Sanford went on to Jefferson Co Ind, died there, buried there. I found no "association" or "connection" between the Shorts, and the Tewells and Wheelers, before the late 1790's, in Mason Co Va/Ky (and still is Mason Co Ky.) Mason Co contained some 15 present counties at that time, but the Shorts settled up and back from the Ohio River, at Washington, rather than at Limestone (present Mayfield); present Mason Co. There were several intermarriages between Shorts, Tewells, Wheelers, "Bhymers". Enough for now. Take care. Regards, Dick
