    1. Under Harsha Lake
    2. Herman Kleine
    3. In the 1940's and earlier there was an east fork sportsmen fishing camp on the river bank. My father was a member of this organization and I well remember outings and camping there. Recollections include someone catching a gar and a snapping turtle too large for a bucket. One time we had to hurriedly break camp and leave because of a flash flood. Herman Kleine

    3. Consider that the name used may apply to the individual instead of the actual given name because that person chose a completely different name. My wife's aunt was named Elsie, didn't like it and chose Peg. Probably the only time Elsie ever showed up was on a legal document. On the other hand my mother, named Helen didn't like that and chose Betty, from her middle name Elizabeth. Betty showed up on legal documents in her case. Also middle names often become lost so the person you are researching could have been using a form of a middle name. 2. Here is a link to a very interesting Boothby web site. It includes the estate papers for Josiah Boothby (c1774-c1830), appraisal, estate sale, and listing of items allotted to his widow and four children. His widow was Deliverance Boothby - maiden name Hanna, widow of a Hamilton. In 1835, after Josiah's death, Deliverance became the second wife of John Derry (Brown Co. marriage license D-138). _http://www.sersale.org/boothby.html_ (http://www.sersale.org/boothby.html) -Judy

    1. Josiah Boothby,of the Yankeetown,Oh colony from Down-East Maine
    2. I watch for peoples from the 3 [more?] colonies from very southern Maine, then still Mass].Baptist Rev Maurice Witham was the earliest [1798] leader, and settled his colony at Withamsville, w Clermont near I-275 and Ohio Rt 125. Mt Moriah cemetary marks the location of Witham's Big Spring-headspring of 9 Mile,or Muddy, creek. Witham also bought 800 acres east on Ohio Rt 125 at Yankeetown, where he settled the 1800 colony. The War of 1812 time period, when the British Navy harrased our shipping and ports, sent the 3rd colony, who settled at Lindale-Amelia,betweeen the earlier two. I've been reading ,from searching Google for "Josiah Boothby" his 1834 estate sale, with additions. He must have died near Manchester,Adams Co, Ohio for Andrew Allison and -Ralston 1st signed the estate settlement. And he left a flat boat, and many barrells of salt. His widow [2nd was a Hannah of New Hope,Oh-1st widow was from Yankeetown-c Rounds]. Anyway, once again,a man trained to the sea as a youth, turned to the Ohio River for work in Ohio. I suppose,1 834,that the salt came from near Charleston,WV. YANKEETOWN,Oh WAS 2-3 miles up Clover [lick] creekj from Caleb Meeker,Thomas Phillips, Rev Moses Warden,John Iden,James Chatterton, Jasper Coalthar.etc

    2. I've been studying the neighborhood Isaac Penny lived in. This latest study was prompted by a letter re Meekers,Phillips,.Irelands,Hays, but my Dad grew up on Clover Creek,1898-2000, and his ancestors,Anna Titus Stone, Hermon Stone,Jr,Charles Fagley,John and Mary Medary Iden owned farms just down Clover from the Meekers and Phillips. Back in 1955,I watched one of the Penny's play baseball for the Locust Ridge men's baseball team. Also,my Bethel-Tate High classmates talked of parking in Penny's Woods. Penny's woods had been logged in dry weather, anbd the logging roads were not rutted. Mrs Margaret Meranda Burbage was a friend of mine, and provided me with some group sheets, and journal abstracts from the Locust Ridge-Spring Grove-Neal's Corner neighborhood. Margaret used to volunteer 1-3 afternoons a week in the Brown Co Gen Soc library,Ye Ol Stone Jail,Courthouse Square,Georgetown,Ohio .

    1. Names that will be forgotten.
    2. Federal East Fork Lake ,built about 1972,was renamed Lake Harsha about 1980. Ohio's state park around it remains East Fork State Park. [East Fork of the Little Miami River, which winds through Clermont West to East. Milford to Marathon. ] It's dams,on Slade Rd,off Ohio Rd 222, are on ,mostly, the old Slade farm. Slade's stagecoach ,later called Rapp's,was at Ullrey's Run, [Ohio Rt 222 South, and Ohio Rt,125,aka Ohio Pike, aka Beechmont Ave. Elk Lick [mills] was a hamlet, bridge, school, mills flooded by the main pool of Lake Harsha. Twin Bridges, crossing the mouth of Clover[lick ] Creek into the East Fork, was flooded by the middle pool..The original Jersey Settlement of 1803 houses ran between Elk Lick and Twin Bridges,on the Tate twnsp side. Goggle-Eye [bridge] over Clover[lick] and Macedonia bridge over Poplar Creek, and Tunnel Mills bridge over the East Fork were torn down ,1972,and their mill sites flooded. Anti-Bantam,Concord, Shangaii Ridge, are hamlets partially destroyed by East Fork State Park. Concord Methodist and Old Bethel Methodist churches and churchyards survive. [6 acres tended,or more] Anti-Bantam-Clover Rd was recently renamed Clover Rd,because the park and lake swallowed the western half. Green Brier cemetary survives, tended,on the western side. Many county roads, named about 1950,when Clermont erected road signs, became extinct under the lake or park. One was at the north end of the saddle dam-sp? [W]Retzler Rd. Elk Lake Rd cut throiugh where the saddle dam is. Another road from Afton's Ford Plant to Elk Liick, and on to Bantam. Much of Williamsburg-Bantam Rd was flooded at Twin Bridges, where the road forked,to Concord, and to Elk Lick. Baudendistal Rd,Jones, Gregor Rds, and Benning Rds disappeared.

    2. I have never heard Sarah used as a nickname for Mary or Mary used as a nickname for Margaret and I have been doing research for over 20 years. I would say that if your family member is using Sarah instead of Mary, then that is not a nick name but one or the other is the first name and/or middle name.
