    1. Isaac Higbee house built 1807-1809.
    2. HERMON B FAGLEY
    3. My younger dau,Brook, wanted some pictures to take home, and,as we searched for duplicates, we found the newspaper clipping [of about 1970?] of the house Isaac and Sophia Somers Higbee built on the s bank of the East Fork of the Little Miami River,Tate Twnsp,Clermont Co,Oh. 10% of their 400 acres, and the house site, was flooded by Lake Harsha,East Fork State park. The Higbee's had a log cabin from 1803,and built the big-[creekstone?] house in 1807.or 1809. [I broke my glasses, and will read the article when I can. I'll guess they moved on by 1830-35. Isaac Jr was a Morman founder of Provo,Utah, 1845+. It was last the country farm of Cincinnati Dr Johnson McGuire. Janie May Jegley was courted there,1930 era. C.Parker owned it 1870. Isaac Parker,or John O Wilson owned it 1891. Cornelius McCollum and his Leeds wife also came and settled just east in 1803,and built a stone house of Paul Mosbacker's-1970. Samuel and Rachel Leeds Ely,came in 1806,and lived just across the creek in Williamsburg, TWNSP.Batavia township corners to the west, and Josiah Wilson's barn survivied 1972. Higbee and McCollum owned a mill 1\2 mile west,at the foot of mile long "Deep Eddy" ,and that site is now the Tate boat dock of Lake Harsha. [that is the handle of the dumb bell shaped Lake Harsha. There was another article showing the old houses of Rev John, and lawyer son,Richard Collins,on the, now,Tate beach of Lake Harsha. Thomas String, and his Albertson wife, lived between Collins, and Higbee's mill. David White, and John Jenkins, and John Conover, and Old Bethel Methodist were the north end of Collins land, and just north of Robert and Margaret Leeds Leeds at Bantam,Oh ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! 1. Renters???
    2. Hi All, On the 1850 census my ancestor, William Cooper, is listed right above Lewis Gatch and below Edward Cowen. I would assume from that that William's property touched Lewis's and Edward's on one side or another. However, after spending several hours at the Clermont County courthouse, my husband was unable to find any deed for any property belonging to William or William's father Jesse or any other family member. Does anyone know if Lewis Gatch or Edward Cowen rented out pieces of their property? I'm finding so little about them that I'm beginning to think my ancestors were in the Witness Protection Program. Thanks, Sharon Schwartz

    3. I've met Jim Logsdon, and he called me yesterday. I have included other Sapp researchers in this note. 1- I've ben saying what we call Ralph Logsdon [m Durbin] was likely the Catholic 1st name,Rapheal. 2 Both Carter, and Canter were numerous in the neighborhood Rev George Sapp 2at married. Personally, I've known far more Canters, so if odds mean anything [?] Rev George Sapp ministered tiny Baptist churches in Nicholsville,on RT 222,AND S of Salt Air,on Rt 222,s of Rt 232.[ Indiam Creek Baptist on Salt-Flack farm at RT 222 and n fork,Indian creek. He buried that Canter-Carter wife at Nicholsville in [?] 1853,and moved north 15-20 miles to Belfast-Newtownsville. His dau m my wife's James Ashton as no 2. While Canter-Carter both fit,Ravenna-Portage are Ohio counties 300 miles ne of Clermont Co. That is a typo for something else. I broke my glasses yesterday, and find that marriage, but let me mention ,while researching Sall's, to checl as script S AND L were similar. And Zapp-Zopp. And Sopp. Se must be a Porter. Now,by 1770, the branch of Sapp's we trace was near Oldtown,w Md, before that, I "THINK" they were on the disputered Mason-Dixon line area bounded by Hampstead, and Westminster, Md,and Hanover,Pa. I "think ' their land was in Md,but their church,or their minister was in Pa. It well may be their minister rode a circut into Md,from Pa. But if they were Catholic??? Anyway,St Thomas Episcopal,at Owings Mills,Md was the official Md colony church for that area-I think. Ky George Sapp was in s Clermont ,Oh a few years, before a strage migration ne to a Catholic colony in Knox Co,Oh. There Ky George Sapp's kids m Mt George Sapp's kids. [the mountian might be Mt Savage,w Md] . I fon't think the Sapp's, or his Logsdon wife had lived within reach of a Priest,if Catholic, many, many years. John Sapp,Sr servered under my Capt-Lt-Rev-Jp George Brown at Weirton,WV-NW WASH CO PA 1781-82. and migrated with him 3-4 places later. Madison Co,Ky 1787?: Carntown, now Pendletown Co,Ky 1798,where John Sapp,Sr died, but his sons,1802,moved 5-7 miles to w Pt Isabel, Clermont Co,Oh with Brown,1802. Brown's uncle,Edward Brown,b 1732 ,had married a dau of Ralph-Rapheal Logsdon. Brown was rowing up the Ohio from Carntown,N kY TO preach at Rural,Oh [Logsdon's Ferry, 1798. 3. With the aid of Rev carlely@juno.com , my Dad was buried this am with some of our dearest friends attending. I thank you all for your notes of sympathy, but feel bad we have caused a few to UNSUBSCRIBE from OHCLERMO-L@rootsweb.com And,between my tears, I learned some genealogy of interest to some of you. Last winter, one of you [?] hear that the Williamsburg cemetary records were transfered to the Bethel I.O.O.F. 80+ year old Gar Parker attended. Beside's being my Mom's 1st and 4th grade student, Gar was the long time secretary of the Bethel I.O.O.F. and one of the few surviving members. Gar doubts the Bethel I.O.O.F. got such records, but will check. GAR doubts the Willimsburg cemetary was I.O.O.F. ,and also, that Willamsurg still has an I.O.O.F. chapter. Russ Wolfer was listening to me talk to Gar,and said he had [access to] the Calvery Methodist Cemetary r ecords in Washington township,in part. He may,or may not have been speaking of the DAR book.,but I doubt it.. Russ also confirmed that the ridge between n fork Indian, and Stoney Run of Indian where the Sapp's, Armacost's,Purkhizer's,Barger's,Hodges lived was called, locally. Brackenridge Breckenridge. I think 'Nanny Goat 'Hill leads up N Fork. Mrs Dan Moore want's some aid with her Blue Creek, etc Adams Methodist minister. We were driven to the cemetary by pal,Doug Stacy, whose dad,Dayton Stacy, was from Morgan Co,Ky. I want to introduce Doug to LauraBrownMcKenzie as soon as he's on-line with his new computer.

    3. I don't suppose rootsweb.cob is the proper place for an obit, so I will attempt to make it more interesting to genealogists. 1st, I gave infromation for my Dad's obit over the phone while emotionly upset. I could easily have checked for accuracy, but didn't and will question obits more from this date. The large dairy, hog and grain farm of my grandfather was in Clermont, but ran almost to the Brown Co line, and I find many traces of his wife's grandfather's John Iden and Hermon Stone,Jr,in Brown Co,which calls the road thru his farm, Fagley Road. Just as I've spent 11+ years caring for my parent[s],so did my Dad spent 11 years on the farm caring for his stroke victam mom, before starting college. Starting at U Cincinnati, he was called west by a recently widowed aunt, and graduated,Phi Beta Kappa, from Occidental College,Pasadena,Calif. Then he hurried back to Bethel,Oh tomarry the 'girl back home"-teacher Ruhama Fagley in 1927. And my own very 1st Email reply to a genealogy querie ,Jan 1992, on Prodigy, stated out. 'Hermon Fagley! My mom went to school to a Hermon Fagley at Williamsburg,Oh!" from Anna9241. And he enjoyed his years spent teaching at Williamsburg, and New Richmond, ". But,he had been a bee keeper since boyhood, and had planted an apple and peach orchard on RT 125 west of Bethel soon after marriage, so he became best known as one of sw Ohio's largest fruit growers, and owner of a fruit market on RT 125 ,that fed Clermont and Brown Co families. He's pictured in the reprint edition of Rockey and Bancroft's history spinning a Morgan's Raider's tale for a county paper. When they retired in 1966 to a Bethel home, my parents spent the next 20+ years helping genealogists who came from a distance to research, and contributing articles and pictures of historical interest to the newspapers. My mother was a charter member and officer of the DAR in 1927,and a founding, and active member of the Clermont Co,Gen Soc. George Fagaly [Vogele] and wife from Stuttgart to downtown Cincinnati about 1808. As a widow, she would found the church now known as Mt Zion Methodist nw of Cincinnati. Among their sons was Lewis, a butcher in downtown Cincinnati, who m 1830 young Mary Ann Fox, and had a large family that they mostly moved to a farm on RT 133 s Bethel,Oh in 1850. A couple of their oldest were Underground RRer's. My 101 year Dad had uncles, not great uncles, born in the 1830's helping slaves escape. I've bored you enough. ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Try it today - there's no risk! 2. Dear Listmembers, many of us have been helped over the years by Hermon Fagley of Bethel, Clermont County, who has vast knowledge of the county's history and has been very willing to share with and help others. In this morning's Cincinnati Enquirer, I saw the death notice for his 101-year-old father. If you have appreciated his help as I have, and if you think this would be a good time to let him know, his Email address is: Hermfagley@juno.com. Just thought some of you might want to know, Amy

    2. Beth Chase Grey
    3. I am descended from Samuel and Sarah Murphy through their daughter, Rachael, who married secondly William Edwin Osborn on 18 July 1845 in Clermont Co. Samuel was a farmer, constable and Methodist Episcopal minister. The Murphy family settled in Clermont County between 1820 and 1826. I would like to correspond with anyone else researching this family. I have found various IGI entries that may be for Samuel and his ten children. Dorothy Wiland has kindly checked the 1850 census and sent an extract, which confirms my family story that the Murphys came to Clermont County from Delaware. Looking forward to sharing information. -- Beth Chase Grey
