    3. Lynda, Rebecca CLARKE is the daughter of Alexander CLARKE, an Englishman, living in N Ireland. John HERRON, born in Scotland, m Rebecca in N Ireland where she was born. They sailed to Philadelphia c 1790 settling in Lancaster, PA. Two of Rebecca's brothers are listed in Strasburg(h), Pa in the family Bible - James and Frank. I do not know the maiden name of Mrs. Mary GRAY nor the given name of her first husband. In fact, I suspect there may have been two Andrew HERRONs in the Clermont/Hamilton Counties area to confuse the issue. Regards, Ed in CA Researching: John HERRON m Rebecca CLARKE. 1. Library
    2. To all, This is the information I saved a while back about the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library. Hope it is of some help. I wrote to the Internet Reference down at the bottom for the info I wanted and they sent it to me at 40 cents a copy. Subject: Cincinnati Library OBITUARIES AND DEATH NOTICES We are often asked how one finds death notices (the page with deaths listed in small boxes) and obituaries (larger write-ups about the deceased). To start you may check Newsdex, our index to local newspapers for the name of the deceased. Go to our homepage, click on Catalog, and then choose option number 2, Newsdex. Enter the name of the deceased, by putting the last name in first, then a comma, then the first name. If you find the person's name, choose the number in front of it, enter this number and then push the enter button. This will bring up a citation consisting of the name of a newspaper, the date of the paper, the page number and the column number. This is the information which we need to find the obituary or death notice and mail it to you. You CANNOT read them online, as Newsdex is an index only. We do not have the technology to e-mail you the text of the obituary/death notice. You must send us your mailing address and we will mail you a xerox copy from microfilm. Please keep in mind that before 1985 we did not index death notices, only obituaries. Therefore if the person you are looking for died before 1985 and received a death notice, but not obituary, you will not find this person's name indexed. If you do not find the deceased person index and you are SURE that the person died in Hamilton County, you may mail us the person's name and exact date of death (year, month and day). We will then search the newspapers for five days following that date. If we find a death notice, we will mail it to you at the cost of 40 cents per xerox page. Please do not send money until we bill you. If you don't know an exact date of death for the person, you should contact either the Elm Street Health Center at 1525 Elm St., Cincinnati, OH 45210 -- telephone: 513-352-3120; or the Hamilton County Health Department at 11499 Chester Rd., Sharonville, OH 45246 -- telephone: 513-326-4510. They can check death certificates and give you an exact date of death. You may then contact us with this information. Our email address is: mg_staff@plch.lib.oh.us magazines & newspapers dept. 3. I hope this is of interest to some one out there. Utopia Ohio is along the river in Clermont Co. About 1 mile e. of there along the river I found an abandoned cemetery. Out of curiosity I stopped last week to get named off the headstones. The cemetery is in terrible shape, small and many headstones were broken, some weathered with age and not able to read. Of the ones I could read and through further research I found this to be considered Bartlow Cemetery. I will list names and dates of those there as I found some very interesting. Ellapasso McGurrin 4-6-1878; Joseph Rice died 9-21-1876 age 63; Charles Pozzo 1897-1903; Bartlow F.M. 1845-1912&Melinda M 1846-1918; Margaret Hicks 1864-1931& Harvey Hicks 1862-1950; Silvanus Phinney Born in the town of Lee Buchshire Co. And it's on a creek, for drainage, amid very flat land that was white oak swamp, Mostly too swampy for 1st generation settlement, but settled later,by 2,and 3rd generation. If her mother's health allows, AnnaW9241@aol.com may look up a 1850-75 Clermont marriage. I have only 1800-50. I'm guessing Wm Baldwin m Lydia Parker, Feb 18,1819 likely at OLD Bethel Methodist or nearby.I'M guessing,in Greenbrier Methodist,Wm Baldwin d Sept 22,1842 51 y g m 17 days was the same Wm Baldwin, and I know some Greenbrier people went to 5 MILE. 1. Jeremiah DANSBERRY and Charity LEWIS m. 1824
    2. snead
    3. Have been researching my Dansberry line in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and have found cemetery records on George M. Dansberry with the following information: b. 2/17/1833 in Williamsburg, Clermont Co., Ohio, d. 4/29/1908 La Crosse, Wisconsin, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. He was married to Mary Case, daughter of Nelson Case and Sarah ???. It also shows that his father was Jerry. From research I have done on census records, this Jerry is probably Jeremiah Dansberry married to Charity Lewis. Jeremiah was born about 1804 in Pennsylvania and died in Ohio Twp, District # 022, Clermont Co. He and Charity were married, probably in Clermont Co., on 1/22/1824. Four children were born to them: George M. who married Mary Case Jeremiah who married Mary Catherine Weeks Francis who married Elizabeth Case and (cousin of Mary and Tabitha) William who married Tabitha Case (sister of Mary) George M. and Mary Case are my 2 great grandparents, and I am trying to find out more about Jeremiah and Charity and if this family connects in any way with the New Jersey family that migrated to Clermont Co., Ohio. Being Jeremiah was born in Pennsylvania it looks like a good probability that his family was from New Jersey and was in transit to Ohio when Jeremiah was born. If anyone knows how I can get a copy of the marriage records for Jeremiah and Charity, I would appreciate hearing back, and if anyone knows anything about this couple, and their family, I would like to hear from you too. Thanks for anything anyone can offer on this family, Holly Snead snead@qwestinternet.net

    1. "Marriages of Clermont Co, 1800-50 "+ 1850-75
    2. HERMON B FAGLEY
    3. All to often I see the above book used as a source 'without giving the JP or minister's name who preformed the ceremony, and that is a major clue. Page 120-121 of Evert's 1880 "History of Clermont" gives the JP,and township. I use the 2 books together constanly,to determine the township where the wedding occurred. It's a bit harder with weddings preformed by ministers. My 1st sources for ministers is the church sections,of the township histories, in Evert's 1880 'Clermont" and Beer's "Brown Co" . [For wedding in the west 2\3 of present Brown Co were recorded in Clermont, and the east 1\3,in Adams Co. At least. John Lindsey,JP,and Rev John Dunlevy, recorded mid-Brown Co marriages in either county. Methodist circut riders are tough, because they served many churches, and moved each year. And I don't think they trobled themselves,at times,to record weddings. Clermont Co has good record, but the 1808-11 ledger is long missing. And that is a period when western Brown Co recoded there. And all of our counties bordered Ky countiesof Bracken,Campbell,Pendleton, and the most peopled,Mason Co,Ky. Clermont Co, and western 2\3 of Brown Co has it's 1802 census available. Likely the 1802 for Adams, and e Brown is available,at Mansfield,or COLUMBUS. 1802 Pleasant township,Clermont Co, was from White Oak Creek east to Adams Co. White Oak is,roughly,Higginsport,Georgetown,New Hope, and Moreystown. Adams Co line is east of RIPLEY,RED OAK,ARNHEIM. union, pleasanbt, franklin, washington,Scott,Green 1802 Washington is White Oak,or Higginsport west to Big Indian Creek at Pt Pleasant, and as far north as the drains of the creeks entering the Ohio River. Lewis twnsp, and then Brown Co,1818 and Franklin twnsp were cut from western Washington Twnsp. 1802 Williamsburg was north of those creeks draining the Ohio, and east to White Oak [e Mt Orab and New Hope, and included Bethel to Sugartee Creek.,and as far north as RT 50 1802 Ohio was ne to Sugartree, and with the East Fork past Batavia,to s Milford. and bonded west by Anderson township,Hamilton Co,NW Territory. Union, and part of Batavia, and Monroe and PIERCE township were cut from 1802 Miami,OR O'BANNON, was the nw most. Bounded by The east fork, and the Little,Miami, and Warren Co -Goshen and Stonelick from it. Was Wayne,in the n e original ? RT 50,AND Warren Co,and Miami. Big Perry township of all, modern Brown Co,was cut,1814 from Clermont. Tate was cut,1805,from s Williamsburg, and Clark twnsp from it's east.

    3. 1791 Rev Robert Wilkes Findley and colony built a cross shaped log church [still standing enshrined in a larger modern building] 8 mils n e of Paris, Bourbon Co,Ky on Cane Ridge [and 3 miles from James Sandusky's fort. James had many in-laws in Clermont. 1796-97,part of Finfley's colony moved to Ross Co ,Oh and Barton Warren Stone became minister,at Cane Ridge, and nearby Concord. 1801,several places in Ky and Adams Co,Oh had a series of religious camp meetings, where series of ministers preached, and where parts of the congregations reacted by falling and shaking,or barking, etc, etc. in the mode of Quakers,Shakers,Pentacostals aS MANY AS 20,000 ATTENDED THE Cane Ridge MEETING. . 2 learned ministers,on-line,and my-self came up with 3 seperate reasons what happened to those congregations, but the result was 'New Light "branches of s Ohio, and n Ky,and mid Ky being split from the Presbyterians. 1801. Then 1806,a s Brown Co,Oh minister, and his friend in N kY and Warren Co,Oh [both educated at Cane Ridge by Findley] led their NEW LIGHT branches into forming sw Oh, Ky,and w Ind Shakers. And another portion of the NEW LIGHT faction became sw Ohio's largest -Church of Christ,or Christian Church-whose Barton W STONE would join with Alexander Campbell, and form what my family called Campbellite Christian. And Campbell's belief's,being similar to many Baptist and Dunkard congregations, would lead whole Baptist congregations into the New Light,or Christian faith. Then comes a gap 1806-20's when I don't know who kept the s POhio New Light faith alive, after it lost Revs John Dunlevy and Richard McNemarr to the Shakers, but in Ky it was Stone. And in s Ohio was raised Mathew Gardner, and for many years,Gardner was the chief promoter of the Christian Church. He was followed,in my Bethel,Oh general area by Elder Lockwood. Regardless, at least near me, the Christian church became much larger than the Presbyterian,or the Baptist. . Internet searches for BARTON STONE, RICHARD MCNEMARR,JOHN DUNLEVY, bring further results, and we have learned ministers like Carl Ely,and Dr Wm Talley who might do more justice to this topic. 1. Republican Meeting House.....
    2. Dotte Schneider
    3. Hello Hermon and fellow listers....... Thanks for sharing all the interesting history of Clermont County -- especially for those of us that have not been there to date. My husband's THOMPSON ancestry came west from Maine to Clermont County, Ohio. His 4th g/grandfather was ALEXANDER THOMPSON. Can you tell me if any trace of the original church founded in 1827 by Alexander Thompson, which was called "Republican Meeting House" is still visible? Surely the building isn't still there, is it? Has a new church building been built on the same site -- perhaps Mt. Holly? I'd be grateful for what you can tell me. Thanks!
