I am looking for Edward Schmidt/Smith that married a Katie Wenzel/Wentzel maaybe around 1900 or later. Missy
I am looking for info on Charles Schmidt born in Germany 1826 and living in Clermont County with wife Katherine/Katie and children William, Edward, Charles,Katie,Henry and John. Missy
Somehow, Methodist circut rider Rev Jesse Justice had two 100 [?] Acre NJ farms to sell in 1805,on Mantua and Raccoon creeks,Gloucester Co,NJ. My guess is that they came from his 2 wives, "but" if from the Justice's,Dr Craig and I have his ancestors wrong. And he 1st bought 540 acres cut now by Ohio Rt 125,and by Sugartree Rd,west of Bethel,Clermont Co,sw Ohio. And increased it to 700 acres. And divided a portion of it among his sons in 826,by will. Then they,or their sons bought lands adjoining the 700 acres. So,I'm a 62 year old hiking, and hiking daily, for cardiac rehab, and weight loss, and lower blood preasure from my home in the middle of the original tract of 1805. And I'm long into local history, and genealogy. And my hikes, at my snail's pace are letting me see things ,I've never noticed at 60 mph. Daily I increase my distances a bit. And,I'm thinking, because nights have been below freezing and days above, that it's maple sugar making season, here on Sugartree Creek. Yesterday my eastern hike finally cross the creek, and just on the 1805 George Swing tract. By the Creek is a road from which I can see the 1805 tract of Michael Strickland,[ but is that mean black pit bull back that way? I finally, yesterday, reached the eastern limits of Justice's tract. And I noticed the scar of a road leading between the forks, and by Thomas Page's 1807 brick sold to US Grant's Simpsons. .You see, when I hike N-S on Sugartree,I hike off Justice land,or do I. My grandpa Brown [wife 's mother a Justice] and Albert Gallatin Justice had farms on former Page-Simpson land. Did I walk north to JOHN DRUMMOND land, orlater,Savil Justice's 2nd farm. My hike west yesterdy was past the house ROBERT JUSTICE HARRIS built, and past Cliff Justice's,his grandfather's, to the Joseph M jUSTICE -Harris turkeyfarm. Killed at Missionary Ridge was Joseph M, and his Leeds wife left Cliff to be raised by Maskell Clark, and by Robert Justice's bro-in-law,Moses Warden. Anyway, across the 4 lanes I've finally reached the Shotwell stage coacjh inn, and the nw limit of Justice land, but it stretches another 1\2 mile to the sw and,1805 ,EDWARD BARTON. I don't know whether Rev Jesse Justice,or his son,Robert, built the old frame to my east. Robert's son,Wm Penn Justice owned it,and a 2nd farm adjoining the 700 acres. And surely joined his brother,Savil, making maple sugar. 200 buckets for 200 sugar maple trees on Savil Justice, and I can just remember the ruins of his sugar camp buildings, where somebody stayed up all night tending 4 kettles. Robert Justice Harris's uncle made maple sugar as a business in my memory, 2 miles west I saw his sugar camp-his building and vat for reducing maple sap into syrup,in 1972. My Wife's great grandfather was tennet on that farm ,1900. That's why we are both sweet. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Hello, List. I am searching for information on Thomas LEACH and John LEACH. Both were born in Ohio around 1828-1829. John was born in Clermont County, but I don't know the township. I am hoping that Thomas was born there too. They could be brothers or possibly cousins. John had a sister named Nancy Jane. We know that John's father died and by 1850 his mother had remarried a James Lambert and they were listed in the census in Indiana. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Could some one please tell me if there was an obit for Martha Ann Kirgan who died, February 11, 1878 in Monroe township, Clermont County, Ohio Thanks for any info as this woman has been a real mystery for a number of years. Eileen
I'm new to the list and am looking for someone who may have information on the family of my 3rd-great-grandmother, Nancy Ann Wood. Nancy Ann was born October 25, 1808 in either Virginia or Ohio depending on what census record you look at. She was first married to John Moore, son of Anthony and Jane Moore according to family Bible records. John was born May 3, 1805. I believe my Nancy Ann Wood is the Ann Moore who married John Moore in Clermont Co., Ohio on Sept. 22, 1825 according to LDS records. John and Nancy Ann Moore had 6 children: 1. Anthony Moore, born April 15, 1827, Ohio 2. Erastus Moore, born May 5, 1829, Ohio 3. William Moore, born Jan. 18, 1831 in Clermont County, Ohio 4. Sarah Jane Moore, born March 10, 1833 in Clermont County, Ohio 5. Hannah Moore, born April 16, 1835, Ohio 6. James Moore, born August 18, 1836, Ohio I believe that all of the children were born in Clermont County, Ohio, but only have proof for William and Sarah Jane. By 1839 Nancy's husband John has died and she marries (this time as Ann Moore) my 3rd great-grandfather, Thomas Baldwin in Clermont Co., Ohio on Dec. 10, 1839. By 1840 this family has moved to Montgomery Co., Indiana. I believe I have found these families living in Stonelick Twp. of Clermont Co., Ohio in the 1820 census. Page 61 of this census shows the family of Thomas Baldwin, who in 1820 was living with his first wife, Susan Stull, a Henry Stull, possible brother-in-law to Thomas Baldwin, and several Moore and Wood families; Anthony Moore, (father of John?) Levi Moore, and John Moore, and Moses Wood, Nicholas Wood, William Wood, and John Wood. Both Moses Wood and William Wood are old enough and have a female marked in the appropriate age bracket to be the father of Nancy Ann. Other families associated with the Baldwin/Moore/Wood family and found on this page are John Metcalf, William Glancy, and William Cowan. Would love to hear from anyone with information on any of these people.
Hello, Sylvia, Found that one of our LACOCKs had married MARY ELIZABETH LEACH, born in 1849. Since Enoch Laycock was supposedly born in Clermont County, perhaps Mary is part of your LEACH ancestry? Hello, I am new to this list, but my Sanders family has Clermont Co. roots. My Maryarter Sanders, son of Nahum and Susannah Sanders, was b. abt. 1779 in NC and his will was probated on Oct. 21, 1856 in Clermont Co., OH. Maryarter's wife, Nancy (mnu) was b. Dec. 2, 1787 in Hawkins Co., TN and d. in Miamiville, Clermont Co. on Jun 3, 1875. He is buried in the Concord Church "burying ground" in Clermont Co. I do not know where his wife is buried. Their children were: Susan SANDERS (b. abt 1815), m. Riley Young WOODLIEF, Jr. in 1829 in Hawkins Co., TN; known children: Capt. William Harold Woodlief and Riley Woodlief, III. Nancy SANDERS (b. abt 1817, d. 1894), m. William Smith BUCKINGHAM in 1835 (his second wife); known child: Jane "Jennie" Buckingham who m. John QUAIL; their known children: Smith Quail, William Henry Quail and George Quail. Sarah SANDERS (b. abt 1820), m. William ORR in 1842; known child: Amanda Orr. Melinda SANDERS (b. abt 1823) m. Moses F. ROBINSON in 1849 (listed as widower on marriage bond; first wife unknown); known children: Dr. John M. Robinson; Charles Robinson; and Eva E. Robinson. Moses died in 1879 and in 1884 Harriet M. Robinson was appointed as guardian of Eva E. Robinson, minor child of Moses F. Robinson. (See my questions below.) Nahum SANDERS (b. Oct. 18, 1827; d. Jan. 8, 1916) m. Elizabeth Martha Fisher in 1850 in KS. Catherine SANDERS (b. abt 1830) m. unknown given name BARBE? Elizabeth SANDERS (b. abt 1833 in KY). Other known information: Maryarter (given name actually Mary Arthur) was b. in NC and moved to Hawkins Co., TN abt. 1813. He moved to Clermont Co. between 1840 and 1850 where he joined his sister Nancy and her husband Thomas MEDARIS who had moved there in 1803. Maryarter is listed on that county's 1850 census with his wife Nancy, son Naum age 22 and daughter Elizabeth M. age 17. His 1856 will listed his wife and all of the above children, but omitted his youngest Elizabeth. It would, then be assumed that Elizabeth had died prior to 1856. I would be interested in obtaining information on any of the above individuals. Of particular interest: who was Moses F. ROBINSON's first wife and who was Harriet M. ROBINSON? I have a lot of SANDERS information to share. Thanks! Mary Lu Sanders marylus@earthlink.net Mary Lu Sanders marylus@earthlink.net
I think I saw someone on the list researching these names. I found a Behymer family from Clermont Co OH in the Madison Co IN history book online www.accessgenealogy.com/indiana/madison. www.accessgenealogy.com appears to be planning a great site. Lou in Indiana
I turned my 1st am hike west on Rt 125 at Joseph M Justice's . And about where Old and New RT 125's were split in 1967. I look north across the Rts 125,and see an addition being added to an already big stagecoach inn-farm house. I think James [John ?] Shotwell was 1st to keep stagecoach inn there, and then, maybe ,Probate Judge, and Elder,Thomas Sheldon,JP. The 1870 and 1891 atlas show James Harvey- James Harvie living there. Can't remember my Mom mentioning the Harvie's. Harvey's. Who was James Harvey? In my 1st memory, about 1943,Oscar T Brown had an orchard there. And Roger Backus, the Amelia druggist, and David Evan's parents. Fran Rapp has subdivided a corner, pushing a road thru to the park, and the Harry Robinson's built a log cabin in the former pasture. Who was James Harvey? Who was Nathanial Johnson? How did my mother walk to Bantam as a 1st grader? Was she, then, like me,carrying 250 lbs? Joseph M jUSTICE was killed at Missionary Ridge, after fathering Cliff, who m Mahlon Wilson's girl, Isaiah Leeds was Joseph M'S father-in-law,so his wife's sister,Cora, is in this Ely Reunion picture. Aunt Cora Ely,who my Mom talked so much about. Uncle Elmer, and Aunt Cora. I know of Robert Lee Harvey, and Robert Louis Harvey, and of the Harvey cheer leader killed in a wreck. 1950 era. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! I think it was a land rush for the rich Miami's lands that was cut short by the defeats of Gen Harmar's 1789,and Gen-Gov St Clair's armies out of Cincinnati vs nw Ohio Indians. Gen Wayne finally won a marginal victory in 1794 that led to the 1795 Treaty of Greenville, and peaceful sttlements. Anyway, pre 1795-96, there was a string of family forts just se of se Clermont, in Mason, and Bracken Co,Ky. And a 2nd string of forts up the Little Miami valley 'from Columbia to Terrace Park. , and, partially, the same peoples from sw Pa, and from the German counties settled each place. So,to a degree, the people from Felicity to Higginsport had known the people from Milford to Loveland. Among the Germanic ,Christian Waldschmidt's Bolender wife was akin to the Bolender-Shinkles settlement. And Capt BEN STITES sw Pa militia company,in part, settled in se Clermont- Many families have members both places. For eastern Clermont Co,the most important feature was a Buffalo-Indian trail from spring to spring, called the Bullskin Trace, and later the Bullskin to Xenia trace, and then the Xenia Road, and finally,RT 133. Bethel, and Williamsburg were located on this trace. Edenton. Maybe Felicity. "But" I'll guess Smyrna Rd,and Presbyterian Cemetary was the old trace ,and east of Felicity. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Fellow researchers: Please be advised that I have just posted a small update to my web page. Included with this update is the following: I have extended the Franklin County, VA personal property tax list transcriptions for Beckelhymer/Picklesimer and allied families now through 1814. I also think I am on to something regarding the connection to the surname Rinker. As indicated on my web page, John Beckelhymer, Sr married for the third time Elizabeth Rinker circa 1780. If you check the tax lists for Franklin County, VA that are posted on my web page (http://members.home.net/johntippet/) you will see that there was a George Rinker, Sr living in the same district as the Picklesimers from 1795 to 1802. There was also an Elijah Rinker enumerated in the tax lists for the years 1795 to 1797, a George, Jr in 1802 to 1804, a Jacob in 1799 to 1801 and a Jonathan in 1804. An Elijah and Jonathan Rinker are enumerated in the Campbell County, KY tax lists in 1809 as well as a John Rinker in 1805. From the marriage records of Clermont County, OH 1800 to 1850 you will find the following Rinker marriages: Cloak Rinker to James Craycraft, 29 Oct 1815 by Timothy Rardin, JP Elizabeth Rinker to Give Rinker, 29 Oct 1815 by Timothy Rardin, JP Mary Rinker to Isaac Ferguson, 19 Jun 1823 by William Robb, MG If you go to the following website: http://scican2.scican.net/MCHAGAI/rinkergeorgedescendantsof.html you will find a descendancy narrative of a George Rinker which is apparently the same family as the one indicated above. The Cloak Rinker is obviously Cloa Jane. The Give Rinker is apparently Levi Rinker. I wonder if George Rinker might have been Elizabeth's sister? I welcome comments on this intriguing connection. I am seeking information on Julotte (Julia) Granville Jones married to John Snakenberg (Schnakenberg). The only information I have is from the LDS marriage record which just has marriage was in 1842, Clermont, Ohio. I do know that she was related to a Paul Jones and somehow she is connected to a Nichols family (Aggie Nichols, also a John Hemphill) from New Richmond. If anyone knows anything about any of these families I would very much appreciate hearing from you. Julotte and John Snakenberg settled in New Orleans, Louisiana. These two people would be my ggggrandparents. My husband and I are from New Orleans, Louisiana but live in frozen Grand Forks, ND. Thanks, Joan Norwood email: joanbilln@earthlink.net
Yes,I can. Bob Davison and I ran Bethel's end for the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, and represented Bethel in the group meeting at Batavia under Judge Nichols, who united the events at Georgetown, Bethel, and Pt Pleasant. And,faint memory is, that the group under Judge Nichols had events themselves, including a "Land of Grant "auto tour, and a banquet at Bethel High School-Sen Bob Taft,Jr,speaker. And,I have good memory that the Batavia group made an attempt to find descs of the Grant's [and likely Simpson's] Now,I was so busy with Bethel's several events, I could not go on the Land of Grant tour, but it's 100% Audrey Richards and Lena Swing were the 'Grand old Dames' of the tour. And Audrey's dau-in-law is here on-line. barich@fuse.net It's also 100% that a vidio tape was professionally made, and pereserved [in Bethel's bank]? And it's 100% that pictures of that event were added by Asst Co Supt of Schools Bob Slade to the reprint version of the Theiry and Mitchell 'History of Clermont" then being readied for publication. Of the Batavia group,it is 90% that Bob Slade had to write descs. And 100% that Judge Nichols, who preforrmed magic at schools, knew,a magic shop owner in Columbus,Ohio that was [? ] US Grant,A DESC. That was 1972, and most are dead, but Bob Davison and I survive-he with a good memory, and mine? And Ray Gelter, who with ex-wife Joy, had charge of the battle re-inactment. Jerry Fitzgerald had the file cards from our Christmas parades,to quickly organizea huge parade thru Bethel. Bob Slade died 3 yeaars ago.
