Looking for information about the George CLARE family & Mary Jane WEST who married into the CLARE family. They had a child name Dolly (don't know the proper name). Lived in Bethel, OH Clermont. John Archard lived on rim of Boat Run valley 1811-1838. Two of his sons, John M. and Nelson, found their way to an area called the Macedonia Community on the border of Amite and Wilkinson Counties of Mississippi. Nelson "ran away" from a Clermont County apprenticeship in about 1827. He married, in 1833, Elizabeth McCrae Archerd, in Wilkinson County. She was the wife of John M. Archard, Nelson's brother. John M. had died in 1832. John's marriage to Elizabeth was in 1830 in Wilkinson County. What led these two young men to Mississippi? Did John move first, taking a flatboat down the Ohio & Miss. rivers and then decide not to return up the Natchez Trace? Did he move with others from Clermont County? In Amite and Wilkinson counties there are a number of Mays, Dunhams, Andersons. In Amite is the Bethany Presbyterian Church with Rev. Smylie. And the Methodist Choctaw preacher William Winans. Many of the folks in Amite and Wilkinson seems to be slave-owning plantation owners who moved to the area from South Carolina in the 1810s. I am looking for anyone who also has ancestors who left Clermont before and up to 1833 bound for Amite or Wilkinson counties in Miss. Bill

I too have been trying to research 'ANDERSON' who lived on the road between Williamsburg and Mt Orab. During the Civil War the family of Samuel C. Anderson (b. 1832, OH) lived in this area and had problems with Morgan's Raiders when they came thru the area. Samuel Anderson was married to Sarah Jane Hitchcock (b 1834 KY). Her father, Anson Hitchcock (b. 1802 PA), is listed in the census as living in this area also at that time. (Anson was married to Huldah Gilman, dau of Joseph Gilman who settled a little east of Sardinia, Brown Co, OH) The family stories always spoke of what the women of the family did when Morgan came thru, and how they protected themselves, but never mentioned the men. Were they away in Civil War? I have not found them in military records. Anson Hitchcock died in 1862 and is buried in Sardinia Cem. Our Andersons had lived for a time in the Covington, KY area, and Sam and his family returned there after the Civil War. Samuel C. Anderson's father was Samuel S. and was born 1805 in Ohio. We have not been able to find the parents for Samuel S. Anderson. I have wondered if they are related to the Andersons mentioned in other queries for Clermont & Brown Cos, but haven't been able yet to connect. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I need help finding Anson Hitchcock's ancestors. Diane

Hermon and Lists, I have been looking for Patric Justice/Justis who came to Montgomery and Fountain Counties in Indiana. I really have no idea where he was from. His daughter Matilda C. was my g-great grandmother, born 14 September 1840 in Montgomery Co. Also, Hermon do you have any information on the Hesler families in Brown and Clermont Co. as well as Mason Co. Ky. Many of these moved to Fountain Co., Indian and on into Illinois. About 1\2 way between Williamsburg,Clermont, and MT Orab,Brown,Oh the broithers-in-law, Moses Leonard and John Anderson, about 1800. Sterling township's old RT 32 [74] on the headwaters of Todd's Run. Almost surely, they were from very sw Pa's present Greene Co,and John a son of a Charles Anderson there. John's children's names, and the sw Pa 1st names of his wife's Wood's match. I guess they might even have had ties to the 2nd wife of Obediah Ireton. Anyway, corrine Diller's doing some great research on a generation earlier Charles Anderson ,which I will post. John Anderson's Nancy m Robert Justice, and lived just east of me. So she was a many great aunt of mine. But,also, and maybe, my wife had a Wm Clark,Jr marry an Anderson girl by Alex Jackson Crawford, JP, who lived a couple miles sw. A grand daughter of John'smaybe? The Anderson's were Methodist, and buried in Williamsburg. John had a dau who became the 2nd wife of Bethel saddler, and Methodist minister, Moses Warden. What I'm looking for is any data, or even any old pictures of this like, that might show ties, or even show that the Anderson's looked like Swede's. Light complection. Following is great data that can 'not" yet be proven to be John Anderson's linage. Hints, but no proof. Swedish Indian traders of very nw Md on to the Upper Potomac. For 10 years, when I was trying to trace just who my Capt-Lt-Rev-JP George Brown . Elizabeth McQueen was, that he migrated to S Ohio with Sapp's and West's was my best single clue. That my 2nd set of parents had a dau-in-law that was part Sapp and part genealogist gave me clues. That my wife's great grandfather m 2nd a Sapp. more Clues. And,10 years down the line,I met Margaret,STROBEL Hartman, genealogist, that knew that last move,to S Clermont Co,Oh was a tiny move of ,maybe 5 miles, from the Ky bank to s Clermont. By that time, I knew Sapp locations in w Md,and at Weirton WV-Burgittown,Pa>Madison Co,Ky. And I LEARNED THAT Pvt john Sapp, serving 1781-82 under Lt George Brown, and on the Otter Creek tax list with him, near Boonesboiro,Ky, had bought Carntown,Ky lands from him,1798-1800. And soon died. There followed a year, when I thought it was 1\3 chance Brown's wife was a Sapp. and 1\3 that she was a McQueen, and 1\3 all other possible surnames. [She was a McQueen] And it turned out Brown had an uncle John Sappington, also, and that he was close to Sgt Hartley Sappington, and migrated with Hartley Sapp. I assume the latter was named for the 1st. John Sapp served under Hartley Sappington. From day 1,I was tracing an early Methodist. But the religions get more confusing for our colony. At least 1 Sapp,or his wife,or both,Ky George Sapp, was Catholic, and their son,,a Baptist Rev. Dear Friends, Note that I have been trying to get a lead on a Frederick Hoffman who married Lydia Taylor. Frederick is listed on the 1830 Census for Wayne Township, Clermont County, OH (Page 303). All I have on them is that they had a child, Elizabeth Hoffman (B: Jan 18, 1809, NJ; D: Feb 6, 1887, Clermont County, OH) who married Samuel Griswold (B: Aug 14, 1801, NY; D: Jan 15, 1854, Clermont County, OH) January 26, 1828 in Clermont County, OH. Thanks for any leads. Ruth
Betsey and David were married in Milford, OH. She is believed to have been born in VA and he came from Monmouth Cty, NJ as a child with his parents and several siblings. They are my 3 gparents. Does anyone have documentation that she is in fact a daughter of Ambrose RANSON, and Fleming RANSON. Ambrose was an Associate Judge in Miami Township, Clermont Cty from 1803 to 1810. He sold land in Milford on 25 June 1807. He got a land patent in 1813 with a warrant from the estate of Major William Mosely, through the executrix, the widow Ann, for 428.5 acres. David is the son of Isaac LEMING buried in Newberry Cem., Mulberry, Miami Twsp, Clermont Cty, OH. He served in the NJ State Militia and his grave is listed in the Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots. The oldest LEMING daughters married twin brothers named George Milton and Simeon Robinson TULEY. GM is another of my grandfathers. The two families moved back to LaPorte Cty, IN after they appeared in the 1840 census for Clermont. On the same page with them are David LEMING and Wyatt RANSON. I need documentation on Betsey, in addition to the marriage certificate, to complete an application to the DAR. Any help with Betsey's parents, siblings, etc., will be greatly appreciated.
