Walter and All, I am working with Rootsweb to get this straightened out, Jerilyn had asked for someone to take over the list. She had written me and told me thank you and said she would put my address in the Administrator's address portion of the tools page, but she never did that, so in essence she is still the listowner. Rootsweb is trying to contact her, if she doesn't answer, they will have to wait for a period of time before changing the list to me, unless she answers and tells them it is OK. I am manager of several other lists on Rootsweb and as soon as we get things straight, will get the OHCLERMO prepended to list as soon as possible. A little about my family, the Hesler, Heslar families of Clermont, Brown Counties of Ohio and Mason Co., Kentucky have been in these areas for sometime, William Hesler married Catherine Waits in Mason Co. in 1802. Some of the family uses the Heslar spelling, but have been proven to be the same family as the Hesler family. The spelling Hessler is also used, some records have the name Hester, although I think this is just a recorder or transcription error. I have considerable material on the Hesler family and have a web site on Rootsweb, the address is in the signature file of the message. Rose, There are two sources that I know of. First there is an index of tombstones at the Clermont Library in Batavia. Second the original records of burials are maintained at the funeral home in Felicity, the name of which I can't recall. This cemetery is owned by the village and they could direct you. It is an active cemetery. This cemetery was in the past an IOOF cemetery and was also known as Sewanie cemetery. Barbara Richards would point out the numbers listed on land tracts in our old atlass are survey numbers. Alma Aicholtz Smith ----- wrote a couple books on the Virginia Military District early surveys and land records. Va had the best claim to sw Ohio, but gave up it's claim to the Contential Congress in 1784,but reserving the area between the Scioto River, and Little Miami rivers for it's Va Rev War vetrans, who had been promised lands on enlistment. Va had an earlier Va Military District,in Ky, between the Green and Cumberland Rivers, but,by 1784,they knew it was not large enough. So,Richard Clough Anderson opened a Va land office at Louisville. [Early, Clough Creek,in\and Anderson township just east of Cincinnati was named for him. Anyway,Mark Clark was asking about Military Warrent,2311. We may have located RICHARD GRAHAM'S 200 acres[by his widow's will] on the Ohio River,aDAMS cO,oH just west of the mouth of Ohio Brush Creek. By the 1790-91 winter, some Richard Graham had a fort,on the Ohio,at Concord,Lewis Co,Ky. Expert Dr Wm Talley and I have conflicting Richard Graham's-both making great sense. His likely a Dumfries,Prince William Co,Va merchant. Anyway.,we may learn a bit more from that Military Warrent NUMBER 2311 Warrent 2183 surveyed for Anderson, above,by John OBANNON Nov 14,1787 and became survey no 391. Warrent no 2273 was surveyed by John OBANNON, Dec 26,1786 > Survey no 415 Warrent no 2260 by Obannon,March 1792>survey524 Richard Call's Warrent 2452 by Obannon April 16,1788,FOR Wm Davies Survey no 514 Warrent 2150,by Wm Lytle, 1804 became survey 4457 WM GIMBO wARRENT 2262 BY wM Lytle, 1795 became Ambrose Gordon'd 969 Warrent 2214 surveyed by John OBANNON, AS 4 SURVEYS NO 1655,1668,1725,1656 FOR James Innis April 2-5-7 and May 27,1788. Anyway,I'm guessing survey 2311 was surveyed by John Obannon, later of Woodford Co,Ky before Nathanial Massie established Manchester Fort,s Adams Co,Oh 1790-91 winter. Massie, for Buckeye Station, and for his men,GIFT RIDGE, had to be on the Ohio River hills because the Ohio River bottom lands up,and down-river from Manchester,Oh were already surveyed for others by OBANNON,a couple years before Manchester fort was built. And,I think, but can't prove, there were,at least, 3 forts or blockhouses on the Ky bank, before Manchester fort. Kenton's [scouts?] blockhouse nearly in sight of Manchester Fot. A few months ago the list was up for adoption. I emailed the coordinator that I would take the list if someone else did not offer, that really wanted it. Did I get the list and do not know it? Will the real list coordinator stand up? We need to turn on the list name for emails, so OHCLERMO-L appears in the subject line automatically. Jack Dole
I am looking for the death date and burial place of Frank Riley. He was born in 1879 to Albert and Victoria Riley. He married Susie Day in 1909, and they divorced in 1918. They had the following children:Chester, Alma, Belle, and Russell. Anybody with information on him please let me know. Thanks Rose
Jack Dole shows an excellent way to answer a roll call call. Jack put surnames in the Email's title, and also wrote an interesting, informative Email full of data that connects Atlantic Co,NJ and mid-Clermont Co,Ohio families. If everyone followed Jack's [and my] examples, there would fewer complaints re roll calls. [I think roll calls an important tool, and I've got 25-30 years in genealogy to compare with critics of them]. Let's be honest. Few things are as boring as somebody else's genealogy raw data. For that reason, you'll most often find me adding some stories that will interest "some " portion of the party-line list. No way you can intertain everybody. Try to get as many of who, when ,where, why, what in you queries as possible. Do not as a whole rootsweb.com list for aid, without,at least mentioning the question\surname you want answered. And,get modern. When sending data thru US MAILS, please include you US MAIL address, AND ,and most don't, your Email address. Group, Sorry I'm caused such a mess with my request for a Lookup. 1. Since this is a Clermont county List, I guess I assumed I didn't need to put that in the subject line. 2. In my "sent" messages I show Lookup on the subject line....perhaps because I have Outlook Explorer of an older version is why the subject doesn't show. 3. I, too, am hesitant about opening something; however items coming from the "list" I generally look at, though never open attachments. Sorry about the mess up, Hope this come through with the "subject" and some one can "lookup" Thanks Betty

Hi Marion It is annoying to not be able to identify where a message comes from. I use email rules to sort and move my messages in Outlook. Without an identifier in the subject this is very difficult. The identifier "[Clermont]" or "[Clermont-L]" should be placed at the beginning of the subject line. This is how it is done in every other Rootsweb mailing lists I subscribe to. When I wrote Rootsweb asking about this they informed me that the list owner would have to request this change. Sometime back the Clermont Co. Probate Court was extremely helpful in sending me quite a few pieces of information. I recently asked for 4 items (all of which should be in abstract form) and sent a check and SASE as I had done before. I got back a letter (unsigned and undated) today that they no longer do this and referred me to the Clermont County Genealogical Society which evidently forwarded my letter on to the Clermont County Public Library. The library replied on the bottom of the Probate Court letter that I should review this letter and they then referred me to the Clermont Co. Genealogical Society. I understand that the Clermont Co. Genealogical Society is manned by volunteers (as is every Gen Society that I know of) and that sometimes it takes several weeks to get a reply which is understood and anticipated. However, my experience with them has been very poor. I wrote them a letter with only one item requested. Four months later I had not received a reply, so I wrote them again. It has been a over year and I still have not received a response - not even a we don't do that anymore letter. I live 600 miles from Clermont Co. - does anyone have a suggestion as to how I migh obtain copies of death and marriage records since the main resources have seemingly dried up? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mary Lu Sanders marylus@earthlink.net
