I think these are two different men named William Taylor. Yvonne, you asked about William L. Taylor bca 1832, married 1859. Hermon, you mentioned William P. (Parker) Taylor buried at the New Harmony Cemetery, Brown Co. On William P.'s monument it has "d Apr 2, 1850 in his 47th year". This figures for him to have been born ca1803. He was born in Ireland. William P. Taylor was first married to Sarah (Derry) Frazee in 1836 (Brown Co. by P.L. Wilson JP). Sarah was the dau. of John Derry and Anna Rardin. Sarah first married John Frazee in 1826 (Brown Co. C-64 by Kennedy). William P. Taylor secondly married Sarah Frye/Fry, 1843 (Brown Co.). Hope this helps. -Judy

Thanks so much for the information on Taylor and Allen families. I have just started these searches and this is SO helpful. Yvonne

Wm L TAYLOR,27 M Ary C ALLEN, nOV 20,1859 BY DENNIS CALLAHAN Dennis Callahan does not seem to be a Clermont Co JP. I'm about 3rd cousins of 3-4 Callahan boys that I went tp Bantam Presbyerian with about 1945. Their mother was a Bantam store ELY.
I am a new subscriber looking for information on the Taylors who were in Brown and Clermont Counties. I have John Taylor bca. 1804 maybe Maryland his wife Lydia bca. 1801 Maryland or Pa. their son William bca. 1832 in Clermont or Brown Co. William Taylor married Ary unknown last name. Any help appreciated. Yvonne
Cornelius McCollum and Leeds wife in 1803 adjoined Isaac and Sophia Somers Higbee - Lake Harsha flooded both their stone homes of very north Tate township. John McCollum lived about Hulington,in n e Monroe trwnsp,on Ohio Rt 222. The Higbee's moved 1st,before joining the Mormans in Il-Iowa-Utah,along the Ohio River,in sw most Pierce twnsp,or 1\2 mile from Campbell Co,Ky. The Hoovers I know about lived south of Feliciry,in s e Clermont's Franklin township.
Most of the Monjar's lived near Wagner Rd,from Locust Corner to 10 Mile Creek,sw Pierce twnsp However,I POSTED A Monjar who was married in 1870 by Andrew Jackson Crawford, who farm was in both se most Williamsburg township,Clermont, and western Pike township,Brown Co,Oh. 20 miles. About 1950-52,I had a red headed Monjar boy born in 1938 in my Bethel-Tate class a short while.
From time to time I see these names in postings. Two of these names, McCollum and White, are found among very early residents of Campbell Co. KY. Anyone familiar with cross river connections? The third, Hoover, has an interesting story connected. Joseph Hoover of Ohio married Catherine Truesdell of Campbell county. They had three children Mary Ann 1813, David 1816 and Catherine abt 1818. In December of 1823 the mother Catherine died. "Following her death her brothers, Solomon Jr and John Truesdell, went to Hoover's house, took charge of Catherine's three small children and forbade Hoover on pain of death ever to attempt to see them again or to take court action toward their recovery. By agreement John was to raise Mary Ann and Solomon Jr the two younger; all three were to take the name of Truesdell and Hoover was never to be mentioned with the family" This was done. The children, Mary Ann married Milton Tarvin, David married Martha Jolly, Catherine married William Dix. Collectively they had fourteen children. Herman Kleine
My father always said our family was connected to the Monjar family but he didn't know just how. This would have been through his mother Edith Higdon, daughter of Daniel Mason Higdon and Carrie Bell Wagner. Daniel's parents were Josiah Higdon and Ann Mason who owned a farm on Clough Pike a couple of miles east of Withamsville Tobasco Rd. Ann was an immigrant from England. Josiah was from Kentucky. Carrie's parents were John Wagner and Caroline Nordyke. Caroline's parents were John Nordyke and Catherine Critchfield. John Nordyke' parent was Samuel Nordyke apparently from New Jersey. Anyone see a connection? Shinkle's ridge as you might guess was the location of the Shinkle family homestead dating from very late 1790 to early 1800's and is located a couple of miles north of Ohio river. Amelia is in south central Clermont Co., OH and Batavia is the county seat at the center of the county as most are. Higginsport is a small Ohio river town in Brown Co. Shinkle, Bolender and Judd were intermarried. They are all mentioned in the Franklin Township section of the History of Clermont County, Ohio 1880. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marilyn Norsworthy" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 07, 2005 10:29 AM Subject: Re: [OHCLER] Gill - 1820's - 1830 in Clermont. Coshocton Co ,Ohio is 200 miles ne of Yankeetown,Clark twnsp,Brown Co,and Newtown, ,Anderson Twnsp,Hamilton Co,and Withamsville,Union township, and Lindale,,Ohio township.Clermont Co,Oh [Maine people, ] and not a common migration route. sw Ohio had, earliest,Maine people in Anderson twnsp, and 1798,they moved to Withamsville,Union Twnsp,Clermont, but also bought 800 acres 20 miles east,at Yanketown, where 1800,they settled the Rounds,Rumrey's,Gould's, etc.1812 came the 3rd down-east Maine [then still Mass] colony of Coombs,Doanes,Temples, etc to Lindale,in between the 1st 2 settlements. I have my doubts about the Dawsons of Coshocton Co
Dorothy Wiland has provided a significant accounting of the Dawson families. John Dawson married Eunice Rounds. b. 1790 in York Co Me. She married John Dawson about 1810 Clermont Co Ohio He was born in Redstone Pa. 1784 died 1858 in Newton, Hamilton Co Ohio. Eunice Rounds father was James Rounds b 1758 Buxton, York, Me. d. 1843 in Brown Co Ohio. son of Joseph Rounds and Sarah Gerry. On this page of information, Dorothy Wiland shows John Dawson/Eunice Rounds son James Dawson b.1808? in Ohio includes the 1850 Census Linton/ Coshocton Co Ohio p.99 James Dawson listed age 42 Elizabeth 38 both born in Md. Francies 19 Jane? Ann 16, Madison, 12 Charlotte 10 James 8 Joseph 5, Mary E. 2 all born in Ohio She also shows further: Guyan Twp Fulton Co P 376 (I am assuming Fulton Co Il) James 45 or 48 B. Va Caroline 47, b. Va. Elizabeth 16. Marlin 12, James 10 Frances 8, Lewis 5. Next door is a Nancy Dawson 50 b. Va. My family history has both Clermont Co Oh and Fulton Co Il. families: Gould, Rounds, Dawson, and Smith. Carole Spencer has indicated that Sarah Elizabeth Smith b. 1835 in Coshocton Co Ohio m. James Gould in Fulton Co Il. One of seven children: Sarah Elizabeth child #6. She shows her parents as James A. Smith 1783, and Elizabeth Dawson b. 1797 d 1847 in Fulton Co. Il. She shows James Smith and Elizabeth were in Coshocton Co by 1820 and in Fulton Co, IL. by 1839. My question is that we are searching for father of Elizabeth Dawson. m James Smith. Could it be possible for her to be daughter of James son of John Dawson and Eunice Rounds?? There are other families involved from Clermont Co: Rumery, Booth, Pennell, Durrell, Peters, Mitchell. and Rounds family are married to several of these families involving both Clermont and Fulton Co and with Maine origins. Carol Spencer also descends from the Smith/Dawson. ancestory. she has a William Dawson she thinks could be the father and a Hannah George the mother but also thinks William might be the brother of Elizabeth Dawson Smith. William Dawson is on the 1850 census in Coshocton Co Ohio. With all the other connections that exist between the John Dawson/Eunice Rounds families it seems to me that there could also be a link between them and the Elizabeth Dawson who married James Smith. Could her father be James Dawson, son of John Dawson and Eunice Rounds?? Any information regarding these families would be appreciated. Thank You Dorothy DeWitt Craft of Van Wert, Ohio.
Herman Wm Judd married 2 time to Catherine (Bolander) Apple, widow of Christian Apple. Christian the s/o Andrew Apple Sr and wife, C(K)atherine Unkown, Christian died ca 1805 at a barn raising per Shinkle genealogy. Stephen Bolander Sr. and his new son-in-law, had some ill feelings per ref. in Stephen Bolander Sr.'s will. Bonnie Andrews [email protected]
Okay, here goes. The places you mentioned sound familiar. I live in AL but had family from Ohio and Kentucky. I could look for somethings on Ancestry in exchange for any on site knowledge you have. My family are the Joseph Heiss' of Higginsport in 1880 census. Do you live in either of these states. Are you familiar with the area? I just know when you talk of north of Augusta, it must be in Ohio as Augusta is on the river. I have seen the Bolender name several times in my research. If I can locate where I'll send it on to you. Is all of Shinkle's Ridge in Clermont County? It was mentioned by a very distant older cousin. Why was it called Shinkle's Ridge. I found a picture of a cemetery there while googling one day. Amelia and Batavia also sound familiar; they're in Ohio, right? The surnames I am researching are HEISS, BEYERSDOERFER, BACH, WENZ, GOECKE, ELLIS. Any help will be appreciated.
