    2. I am searching for information on a John Hammer/s. There were two living there in the 1820 census. The one I am looking for was born probably 1780-95. I don't know where he was born since his parents lived in York Co. PA>, Frederick Co. MD> then Fayette, Allegheny & Greene Co PA., during that period (from his father's Rev. War pension record.). I don't know that he would be either one. I am "clutching at straws." His sisters lived in Clermont Co. OH, Agnes Woodmansee, Phoebe Stevens and Mary Carrothers, and his much younger half brother lived in Middletown, OH, where my grandmother was born in 1849. Also, my John had a sister, Phoebe. One of these John Hammers living there had a daughter, Phebe, who married there around 1820. Also some of the members of the family were blacksmiths and harriers. I'm not anticipating results, but maybe someone on the list knows something about one of the John Hammer/s who lived there. Thanks for your search. Juanita Lewis

    3. As you probably know there is a John Hammer, Civil War period, buried in the Middletown Cemetery. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohmidcem/ There is also a Woodmansee family buried closeby. Woodmansee's originally from the Clermont County area are working to preserve the Wodmansee Cemetery referenced below As it turns out based on your information, Agnes Hammer Woodmansee married a James Woodmansee who is the son of James Woodmansee d 1818 and Hannah Worden Woodmansee. James and Hannah Woodmansee are buried in the Woodmansee Cemetery currently being preserved in Liberty Township, Butler County, OH. The Woodmansees are referenced in the Butler County Cyclopedia online. You can see James & Hannah's tombstones at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohbutcem/ Liberty Twp then Woodmansee Cemetery. The collateral families may be a source of information about the John Hammer you specifically are searching for. In the Middletown Cemetery, John Hammer is buried on the lot with a Mary Hammer- buried 8/17/1900. the lot is Sq04_L25 South 1/2 bought by Aaron Hammer. The Middletown Cemetery did not begin until 1825. Prior to that time burials were made along the Great Miami River on a bluff nearly destroyed by the late 1870's. I hope others will be able to help you but I will keep any eye out for a Pre 1850 John Hammer.
