The Middletown Library had this person contact me to see if I could help her. I am afraid that I will not be much help, but I thought someone out there might be able to help her. I found her committs about the connection to Charles R. Hook very interesting. I'm trying to find the family of the CHARLOTTE WILLIAMSON that married Ira Gage HOOK on June 30, 1835 in Cincinnati, OH. She was born about 1810 in Ohio to parents born in PA (at least that's what the 1880 census states). Ira had passed in 1843 in Mobile, AL so she was back in Cinci by 1850 with her 3 boys John Canada, Henry Hamilton, and my ancestor Charles. Ira had been the owner of the riverboats "Victoria" and "Anne Calhoun" mfrd. by his family boatyard in Marietta, OH. (Knox & Hook). They lived in Mobile (per 1840 census), but he was "of Cincinnati" running between this location and presumably New Orleans and points west. By 1860, Charlotte was working for a Cincinnati doctor as a nurse, with her sons assisting. John and Charles enlisted for the Union in IL. in 1864. I think Charlotte was involved as a nurse for the Union during the war, as Henry was later a director of the Cinci Sanitation. She is listed in the 1870 and 1880 MO. census (Kaw and Kansas City) as a nurse. Charles R. (Ruffin) Hook, son of Henry Hamilton Hook wrote a small genealogy for the "Humphrey Hooke of Bristol" book that he initiated in the 1920's stating Charlotte died in 1884. I don't know where though or who her family was. Charles R. Hook was a pretty prominent man in your area, and I feel he must've left more papers somewhere in the area. He was founder of Armco Steel and Junior Achievement. Thanks so much for any assistance, Kimberly Hook Martin Kim "Life is a promise, fulfill it."
