I am a decendent of Philip Round. He was born in PA. in 1770, joined the army as a scout/spy from 1790-1794 during the Indian wars. I believe (can't prove) that he was at Ft. Hamilton part of that time. He was in Washington Co., Ohio in 1800 census and in Butler Co.,Ohio in 1807 tax list. My gggrandfather, Ezra Round states he was born in Butler Co., Ohio in 1810. Philip's father, Jacob Round, filed for land in Symmes Purchase in 1791 and made an indenture with 3 of his sons ( Andrew,Daniel, Jacob Jr.) in 1811 in Butler Co. The surname " ROUND" has been changed around several times by census takers and deed writers as ROWAN/ROWEN/ROWND/ROWN. Philip Round served active duty twice in" War of 1812 " in 1813 !! He was probably in Militia this time !! He showed up in Dearborn Co., Indiana in 1820 census. He was married to a Mary E. Dickinson ( probably before 1799) He had another son, Andrew Round in 1799. Philip had a sister, Catherine Round, who married a Frederick Olendorff in North Bend, Hamilton Co.,Ohio in 1793. He was killed by Indians. She married John Dickinson/Dickerson in North Bend,Hamilton Co. in 1796. He was a Rev. veteran of the " Delaware Blues ". He died in Vermillion Co., Indiana in 1833. I tend to believe that Philip's wife, Mary was a relative of his. My great grandfather was named John Dickinson Round, b 1839, in White Co., Indiana. It is possible that some of Philip's brothers may have also fought in the Indian wars or War of 1812. Philip Round was last known as Philip Rowan in the 1850 census of Richland, Fountain Co., Indiana. He was a widower, living with his widowed dau. in law, Charlotta Rowan and her children. His oldest son Andrew, died in 1841 and is buried in Salem cemetary, Richland, Fountain Co., IN , at age 40. I believe this family belongs in Butler Co. History !! P.S. Jacob Round, his father, was the Jacob Round of Hanna's Town, Westmoreland Co., PA ,who in 1774 signed 2 petitions to Gov. Penn asking for troops to help defend the fort in Hanna's Town from Indians. I would suggest that you contact the Butler County Soldiers and Sailors Monument to see what records they have. The website is http://66.117.197.5/monument/ They should be able to check their records for you. Good luck!
