    2. Hello Bette. There are 2 Jesse Stoners listed in the 1910 federal census: 1) Beaver, Lincoln county, Kansas: this one is 44 years old, b OH; has wife, Florence, age 40, kids Ruth and Jesse L, Jr. 2) Helena, Lewis and Clark co, Montana; this one is 49 years old, b OH, parents born MD; he's rooming w/a family. Per age, I'd assume this one is yours (if he was 59 in 1920, then 49 is right for 1910). Pavla

    3. Hello Pavla, You may have actually found the Jesse "H." STONER of my focus although he is enumerated in the 1910 Census with a middle initial of "S". The age he gives in 1910 (49) fits well with his age in 1920 per the LA Census (59). However, his age in all censuses is considerably misrepresented as he was born in 1848 which puts him on the far side of 70 by the time of his death in 1922. On the plus side, his birth place is given as Ohio and his parents' as MD; both entries are correct. In addition he is listed as a "dry goods" salesman in 1910... not too much of a stretch from a grocery clerk in prior censuses. But it is a big surprise to me to find him in Montana... a long way from Ohio (Cincinnati Census 1900) but yet possible, I suppose, if he was on the move ... a wanderer...... headed for Los Angeles via Helena. I will look at this from other angles but so far this is the best lead that I have gotten. Thank you for looking and for the information.
