Monty, If you haven't gotten enough help already, the BCEO map shows two section 9s in Liberty Twp. Those are the red numbers that show on the map. Milliken Road is the southern boundary for both sections so that would have been the property line for your grandfather's property. A section is (usually) 1 mile square and it appears both of these are about that size. The 160 acre quarter section is then 1/2 mile by 1/2 mile; the property would then have extended 1/2 mile north of Milliken Road. The east-west position is a little trickier. There is an 1875 map I accessed through the Butler County site on OHGenweb (http://members.tripod.com/~nanny_4/ButlerCounty.html) that appears to indicate the western section 9 is in Range 2 east and the eastern section 9 is Range 3 east. That would seem to place your grandfather's property in the eastern of these two sections but I am not certain of that. If so, the property would currently be split by I-75 (if it was the SW quarter) or abut the Warren County line (the SE quarter). Hope this helps. Monty Reed <[email protected]> wrote: Hi, Speaking of Butler County maps, I have been trying to locate a Liberty Township map showing section boundaries and numbers. I'm trying to pinpoint a farm my grandfather Palmer bought in 1921 from Mr. Radabough. Legal description from the deed: "Situated in the County of Butler and in the State of Ohio, and in the township of Liberty and bounded and described as follows: Being in the Southwest quarter of section nine (9) in the Third Township, third or Military Range between the Miami River, containing one hundred and sixty (160) acres, more or less, and all the....." Handwritten on the deed above "Southwest" is "Southeast?" so someone apparently questioned the exact location. Can someone point me in the right direction to obtain a map with enough information for me to locate the farm? I visited the farm several times c 1945-1949 but can't remember exactly how to get there.... I was too young to drive. My grandmother lost her life there in January 1923 when the family home burned to the ground. Appreciate any help. When I scanned that map, I had to do it in two sections because of the size. (1/4 a newspaper sheet) The black line down the middle denotes the sections. If anyone wants to right click on each section of the map, you can save it to your own computer and print out each section as an 8x10. It probably will print better than it shows on the screen.
