    3. Caroline, I have tried to research that same information off and on a couple of times in the past but found no definitive documentation. I'm looking for the burial location of the father of my GG Grandfather James G. Martin born 1810 in Butler Co, OH. I would be very interested if you locate any proof of Martin's buried in that cemetery. Possible first name of his father would be William if James G. Martin followed the Scottish practice of naming his second son after his father and his first son Levi after his wife's father which he did. His first daughter was Amelia which should have been the name of Williams' wife and James' mother. He named his second daughter Sarah which was his mother in-laws name so he followed the naming pattern with Levi and Sarah in those cases. Some associated facts: In earlier research (20 years ago)I thought that Jonathan L. Martin was the father of James G. Martin because he had a son James C. Martin and daughter Sarah and he was also of a Scottish line and for a multitude of other reasons and associated facts to numerous to go into here. I do think the families are distantly related but James father was born in Scotland and his mother born in Ohio where as Jonathan's had been here for several generations in Va. Some more current research of associated families in Bulter Co., OH leads me to believe a William Martin was the father of James G. Martin. A book titled Buckeye Presbyterianism records the minutes of an Oct 7, 1808 meeting in which James Scott was sent off by the Lancaster Presbytery to western Ohio. This Licentiate Rev. James Scott was first at Fredericktown. He is recorded as a Canonsburg Man a town in Western PA. Many members of this western PA Presbyterian Congregation moved together following Scott to Butler Co. In the 1800 Census of the County of Washington, PA is a William Martin and John Martin next door to each other. Close neighbors are Alexander Reed, James Reed, and John Scott. There is a gedcom file showing a John Scott b 1728 Scotland / Ireland d 1810 Butler Co., OH with a son b 12 Feb 1771 PA d 19 May 1857 Butler Co., OH. 1810 Tax Records for Butler, Co., OH shows both James Scott and John Scott with property at R2,T5 Sec. 25. William Martin R2, T5, Sec.23. In the Miami Co., OH 1835 Census James G. Martin is living seven houses from James Reed and eight houses from Asa Scott. This is in Casstown, Miami Co., OH If you find any burial listings tied to these families it may indicate members of that congregation were buried on the bluff over looking the river. I am working on reconstructing a list of burials for this cemetery to have online with the Middletown Cemeteries. There is no indication from the Middletown Cemetery records that burials were moved from the "Riverside" burial grounds to the Middletown Cemetery. The Catharine Vail w/o a Stephen Vail, in the Middletown Cemetery, did not die in 1819 as generally reported but actually 1849- the stone is difficult to read but online genealogies reinforce this belief. I have tried to use online genealogies from rootsweb.com to try to track possible burials for this cemetery. Also note that the "Riverside" burial ground was "destroyed" by flooding well before the historic 1913 flooding. Supposedly there were many Revolutionary War Veterans buried in the "Riverside" burial ground as the Middletown Cemetery is the resting place for only 2 Rev. War Vets Any help/ speculation would be appreciated. thanks- Caroline Huppi www.rootsweb.com/~ohmidcem www.rootsweb.com/~ohbutcem ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to OHBUTLER-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
