I got the two mixed. Meant to say the index is missing for those years. Wouldn't it be nice of they would put those online like Missouri is doing. Norma

    3. Diane, There is a large gap in the death index from 1944 to 1958 on both Ancestry and on the Ohio death index site. I don't know why there is this gap. Maybe someone on the list knows why there is this gap in the availability between those years. It is possible some of the larger libraries, such as Cincinnati Public Library, may have these missing DCs on film. 3. Norma, When you said there is a large gap in the records, are you saying there is a large gap in the original death records - in the sense that Butler County does not have those records - or are you saying that Ancestry doesn't have those records in their index? Sorry it took so long to get back to this, we've been on vacation. Please advise, Dianne -----Original Message----- From: ohbutler-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ohbutler-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Norma Adams Sent: Thursday, March 01, 2007 12:31 PM To: ohbutler@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [OHBUTLER] Death lookup - PRUEITT Diane, I checked the Ohio Death index on Ancestry but didn't find either of them. However, there is a large gap in the records, from 1944 to 1958, where no records are available. If the died between those years, I don't know where you'd find the records. 3. Try contacting John Francis at the New London Cemetery, at Shandon. There might be a chance that he can guide you to a relative who might have knowledge...or, he might have info as to whether or not he might be buried in Shandon, if he has passed on. Easy way to go is to contact the United Church of Christ (the old Congregational Church) at Shandon....that is where we all went. I don't know that I personally ever knew or met Hugh or Leona, but I'm certain that my folks knew them well. Go on the Butler County website (rootsweb access) and there is a lot of info and contact stuff on there. Who knows, since my background is Shandon Jones/Williams/Griffiths, there is probably some sort of family relationship there, too, after all, everybody out there was kin of some sort. My foster sister, Marilyn Gast, seems to think that she remembers Hugh Davies being the son of Billie and Anne Davies. Billie owned a Marathon station a couple of houses away from our house. All of the local men gathered there daily, at one time or another, to play "pitch" (a non-gambling card game), drink pop, and swap lies. It used be a big deal for us kids to be there and listen to the tales. Marilyn thinks she remembers a nice-looking older guy in uniform when she thinks of Hugh Davies...and yes, there is a picture somewhere in one of my albums that has a picture of the Honor Roll, with his name on it. Billies old water well had the best drinking water in three states and I carried two galvanized buckets of that water home, for our family to drink, every day, once I got big enough to carry it. Billie also had an old (Plymouth, I think) car out in the back attached shed that he wanted to sell me for $50.00, but Dad didn't want to let me have it....afraid I would get in trouble or killed....and he was probably right. 3. Hi, Looking for any type of documentation that would list people living in butler County. I would like to find information that falls between 1805 and 1820. I have seen the 1807 census information. I was recently sent the 1810 tax duplicate. Is this information (the 1810 tax dup) only land owners? If so is there a tax list on those who people who paid taxes on farm animals etc from 1810. Another words, if you did not own land, what other source could I find someone in. 3. I would suggest you try here first http://visit-butler-county-pennsylvania-pa.com/calendar.asp?date=7/7/2004&mo nth=7&year=2004 The fair grounds appears to be on Rt. 422 not 4. There are a number of greenhouses there but one that might be what your looking for is Crieghton or something like that now, I closed it down. It is near the town of Prospect. Try also Cranberry Twp web site. Amazing what one can find while googling.
