Deb- That cemetery is written about in an early ARMCO article. Only Enoch Abner is spoken of. I have found no listing for that cemetery either. Perhaps someone will be able to separate a list of lost buials inot "correct" cemeteries if any list existed. Perhaps you want to collect data on the Tytus road cemetery. Joyce and Ken Hinkle, from Middletown (Deb Morrison is in contact with them consistantly and they are with the Middletown genealogical group) can probably give you a fairly accurate rundown on where the Hinkles are located in this area, since they have been keeping tabs on them for several decades. I know they were located out at Elk Creek and Jacksonburg since before I can remember......GeneWilliams Caroline - - 8 more days and I will be getting back to the Mound Cemetery. THANK GOD....TAX TIME IS ALMOST OVER....and I am ready to get unchained from my desk. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Caroline Huppi" <chuppi@cinci.rr.com> To: <ohbutler@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 10, 2007 10:50 AM Subject: Re: [OHBUTLER] Original Burial Ground Middletown > Shirley, > It is unlikely there are any Hinkles in the Riverside Cemtery as there is > only 1 Hinkle in the Middletown Cemetery listed as death in 1901 much > later > than the "Riverside" time frame. > > You might want to go through all the cemeteries at > www.rootsweb.com/~ohbutcem to find Hinkles. Has anyone found French's buried in Butler county? I am researching Phillip French who moved to Vermillion co. IN after 1820. I wonder if his parents were in Butler co. Marilyn in West Virginia
Middletown is Quite a bit further from the Ohio River to make it reasonable that " Also it is possible that, Christropher Round/Rowan is buried there as he > was ambused by Indians near the Ohio River while a teen ager. I know that they > have lived in Fairfield and in several other areas". Also If the Family is recorded as known in Fairfield Township it isn't entirely reasonable that they would be buried in Lemon Township at the "Riverside" cemetery. In the Amanda Cemetery nearby Middletown Cemetery and possibly the Little Praries Baptist Church burial ground there is an 1802 limestone burial marker. so there are plenty of Small cemeteries between Fairfield township and Lemon township. Religion or other evidence of residency in the Lemon/ Madison Township would give more credence as to burial location. Perhaps we need to start a website of generic lost burials in Butler County. But if you have a township where the people are more likely from- they should be identified as buried in the Township and not a specific cemetery. Has anyone come across John (1841) and Hulda (Jenkins) Handley? Their children were Archy (1864), Barbara (1869), Elinnes (maybe aka "Gillie"???) (1873), and Stanley (1886) and maybe more. Thanks. Nancy Sween ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Shirley, Most if not all of the burials will be speculative. For example Noah & Joel Doty are written about having died in 1806 & 1807. No one talks about where they were buried. The odds are good that they were buried in the Riverside Cemetery as there is no evidence that Daniel Doty had these 2 moved or buried in the 1827 opening of the Middletown Cemetery. I plan to reference "Why" the person has been put in the cemetery. In the "Centennial" book about Butler County someone wrote- "The city should have preserved it and here erected a shaft to Steven Vail and others. In 1873 but two stones remained, that of George Russell, who died May 25, 1814, and Moses Vail, son of Steven Vail, who died at the age of sixty-two years. " These are the only "known" burials in this cemetery. I hope that clarifies the approach I am taking on reconstructing the burials for this lost cemetery. Shirley- I haven't heard any gossip about anyone scalped. That may predate even the Middletown "riverside" cemetery. I have heard about a Liberty Twp woman "scalped" and supposed tombstones - that "cemetery" has no stones and is surrounded by homes- no evidence of any burials. It is possible that your relative was buried where he was found. I have heard that that was done and without a stone and before 1867 there would be no record. Sorry I couldn't help- consider "Putting" your relative into the "Riverside" Cemetery. I'm willing to put speculative burials- especially if you have a year. Worst thing that would happen- I'd be wrong. I figure wrong is sometimes better than leaving no record and loosing relatives by neglect. Carolyn - Good idea but let me do some checking first to make sure I don't have a burial listed someplace. I doubt it but will check. Do you list them as speculative burials? Shirley, It is unlikely there are any Hinkles in the Riverside Cemtery as there is only 1 Hinkle in the Middletown Cemetery listed as death in 1901 much later than the "Riverside" time frame. You might want to go through all the cemeteries at www.rootsweb.com/~ohbutcem to find Hinkles. There are a handful in Madison township in the Elk Creek Cemetery. Until I'm a lot smarter there will not be a global search on this website. good luck- Caroline Huppi ----- Original Message ----- From: "shirley pearson" <unicorn1945@sbcglobal.net> To: <ohbutler@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 10, 2007 3:38 AM Subject: Re: [OHBUTLER] Original Burial Ground Middletown > I've not followed this conversation so forgive me if I'm asking about something already answered. Richard, It is unlikely that your GG Grandfather James G. Martin born 1810 is buried in the "Riverside" cemetery in Middletown. The "Riverside" Cemetery has no records and was washed mostly away by the 1870's and deffinately by the 1913 flood. The cemetery would have burials from late 1790's-1827. The Middeltown Cemetery began in 1827. Middletown Cemetery records were used to create www.rootsweb.com/~ohmidcem Woodside Cemetery another large local Cemetery began Dec 1891. Death records apparently began around 1867 with "random" death records before that date. The death records are at the records center in Hamilton for early years and at some time kept in Middletown. I do not have the details for death records. The tax records are not of much value without the township reference, though you might look at the land ownership in the 1836 maps available on www.rootsweb.com/~ohbutler. I hope some of this helps- Caroline Huppi Middletown cemetery has the following Martins. The year is the death year and most do not have tombstones since a birth year is not given. I am looking for the surname of WILLS / WILLIS. My 4th. great grandparents were Jonathan WILLS/WILLIS and wife Hannah DOUGLASS. They had two known children. A son Charles born circa 1829 in Middletown and a daughter { no information on her}.I know she died as a very young child, maybe even before her first birthday. John and Hannah were married in Buttler Co. and their son Charles born in Middletown so, I know the daughter was born there as well. John died by 1832-33. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
