The only thing I can think of is Old Southern Baptist. I have no idea if that's right or not. They are just photos of the signs and plaques that are in the cemetery. The plaques give the history of the cemetery and the church that was formerly on the site. It's three photos. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis Kowallek" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, April 08, 2005 8:27 PM Subject: Re: [OHBUTLER-L] O S Baptist Church > On Fri, 8 Apr 2005 20:14:09 -0400, "Tim Robertson" > <[email protected]> > wrote: > >>If anyone would like the photos I can send them to your personal email. > > What are the photos of? Thanks everyone for the help on the cemetery. The grave I'm looking for is Francis Law who died about 1818. His gggg-granddaughter said all she knows is that the record she has says he was buried in the O S Baptist cemetery. Norma
It's also known as the Pioneer Cemetery. Many of Trenton's pioneer's are buried there - including the founder and the first doctor there. At the corner is Founder's Park where the founder, Michael Pearce's house set. It's history is on a marker there. Take care, J. Larry Helton, Jr. "It's not how you die, it's what you live for." - Daniel Boone
The cemetery behind the Nazarene Church in Trenton was to an earlier church, without looking it up I cant remember the denomination off hand. Take care, J. Larry Helton, Jr. "It's not how you die, it's what you live for." - Daniel Boone
Thanks, Caroline. I remember searching for jjohnson, and not finding his new site. So I really appreciate this update. Currently at the library, so I'll need to update it later. Thanks, Norma! I think there are three churches here in Trenton with cemeteries. There is the Holy Name Church, which has always been a Catholic church as far as I know. The Lutheran Church has a cemetery and I think it has always been Lutheran. There is also a Nazarene Church with a cemetery and I don't know if it has always been Nazarene. I think the big cemetery at the main intersection is the Elk Creek Baptist Church Cemetery but there is no longer a church to go with it. Where is the list from the old riverside Middletown cemetery? According to some history I found in the Middletown Library about the old burial ground- "In 1873 but two stones remained, that of George Russell, who died May 25-1814, and Moses Vail, son of Steven Vail, who died at the age of sixty-two years." It's likely graves were moved but without tombstones going with the bodies Middletown doesn't have the records. I just read there were sexton records but I have not run across those yet. Gary King, I have appreciated your efforts in putting the various lookups from the subject book on this site for all of us to read. When you can find the time, would look up the following for me: Conarroe p371, Connaroe p365, Connarroe p782, Goebel p134, Keller p102, 369, 370, 371, 372, 618, 763, Mendenhall p147, 371, 476, 477, 784, Theiss 708, 709 and Thiess p368. I realize that is a rather extensive list but I would appreciate anything that you can lookup, as your time permits. Respectfully, Don Goebel
The only other possible way to confirm the burial place is death certificates..if they can be found and if they list the place of burial. Many of the old death certificates do not list burial place. I believe that if any graves remained in the old cemetery by the river they were brought to the Middletown Cementery and buried due to the flooding.
