    1. CLAWSON
    2. Susan - or anyone - do you know about the Clawson families of Butler County? My great-aunt married a Clawson who was a veterinarian. They had no children but were preparing to adopt a girl when Dr. Clawson drowned. I'm curious about who his parents were. (It gets a bit tough when a couple has no children to find for more info.) 3. The MetroParks of Butler County have a beautifully restored house that they use as their administrative headquarters. It is at 2051 Timberman Road in Ross Township. They believe that it constructed by the Timberman family in the early 19th century, possibly c.1812. Several Timberman's show up in the are on the 1875 and 1895 Butler County maps. Does anyone know anything about them? Did they or could they have built this house? A picture of it is on the MetroParks web site at: www.bultercountymetroparks.org

    2. Susan Y. Clawson
    3. Yes, Sarah Bull Baker is the sister of Abraham Jackson Bull, from whom the family I am working with is descended. We are looking for proof of the connection to Jonah and Jane Bull, and want to trace the line back further. Incidentally, I live in a house built about 1849 by Robert Baker, son of William and Sarah (Bull) Baker, so I have done some work on the Bakers. I am not descended from either family, but I am interested in local history. 1. GEORGE, DeARMOND, YOUMANS - and the epidemic
    2. There were a few GEORGE family members who seem to have died during an epidemic also, but earlier family historians thought it was typhoid fever. Perhaps it was cholera. Thirty-five year old Joshua George died of typhoid fever about 1835-6, and Reuben Sr, Esther, and their 10 year old son Isaac are believed to have died during an epidemic in the summer of 1837, all in Butler County. Reuben Sr. made his mark to approve his will dated June 10 1837, witnessed by James Jenkins, Evan Jenkins, and Wm. C. Jenkins. The will was filed September 1837, will record number 2, page 276. Samuel Hardin "Squire" DeArmond husband of Sarah Youmans DeArmond, bought Reuben Sr.'s farm and became the guardian of Reuben and second wife Esther's surviving 6 year old daughter Mary, who later married John Randolph DeArmond (1828-1882), son of James and Maria Youmans DeArmond. Mary George DeArmond not only survived the causes of her parents', brother's, and half brother's deaths, but she lived to within 3 months of her 101st birrhday. Interesting how various Butler Co families intermarried back then. Nancy http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~vlwest/george/

    2. Meredith Thompson
    3. FYI, I received the following message and am passing it on. - Norma Norma, I thought the Butler County(OH) lists might be interested in this, particularly because Kandie Adkinson and Diane Gagel will be speaking. Meredith ========================================= Meredith Thompson <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected] alternate e-mail: <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected] Indiana Genealogical Society Newsletter editor & website manager <http://www.indgensoc.org/>http://www.indgensoc.org ========================================= Midwestern Roots 2005: Family History and Genealogy Conference Indianapolis Some of the nation s leading genealogy professionals will present at Midwestern Roots 2005: Family History and Genealogy Conference, August 18-20 in Indianapolis. Midwestern Roots, co-sponsored by the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Genealogical Society, will feature over 30 presentations covering topics ranging from finding female ancestors, census substitutes, family food traditions and German SS records to baptismal records, preserving family papers, genetics and more. Optional pre-conference activities on Thursday, August 18, range from tours of the William Henry Smith Memorial Library, the Indiana State Library and the Indiana State Archives to writing workshops on preparing family histories for publication, computer labs on genealogy resources available on the internet and a workshop designed for library staff and volunteers who answer questions from genealogy patrons. The Genealogy Division of the Indiana State Library and the Indiana History Center Smith Library also will stay open late for extended research hours. Other activities include a lively panel discussion bringing together genealogists and historians to answer the question, History and Genealogy: Why Not Both? The evening will begin with a dessert reception at the Indiana History Center followed by a discussion with nationally-renowned historical genealogists Elizabeth Shown Mills and Curt B. Witcher, Indiana historian James H. Madison and migration historian Marianne S. Wokeck, who will explore how these fields can enrich each other, from uncovering the slightest detail of one life to seeing human history more clearly because of that life. On Friday, August 19, the conference will begin with the opening session by Mills. Mills will explain the standards and processes all researchers need to apply when using family history and genealogical sources. Friday will conclude with a banquet and Mills will give a presentation that encourages taking what is learned about ancestors and conveying it to descendants. On Saturday morning, Madison will begin the day by considering the various migration streams that settled the Midwest and show how their origins, timing and cultural features helped make the region a distinctive part of the nation. Other notable national speakers include genealogists John S. Humphrey, Diane Gagel, Elizabeth Kelley Kerstens, Tony Burroughs and Kandie Adkinson. The Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Genealogical Society will offer six scholarships for individuals to attend the conference. The scholarship application can be found at <outbind://11/cwood/Local%20Settings/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/OLKD/www.indianahistory.org/midwesternroots>www.indianahistory.org/midwesternroots.
