Next logical question seems to be.......who was your Andrew's parents? If he is a cousin, then I will probably have the information on the prior 2 to 3 generations, once we know his parents...........and can process him back to David (the Revolutionary). As an aside, one of the cousins of our not-so-distant past was Darrell Joyce, superintendent of schools at Fairfield (next to Hamilton). There is even a "Joyce Park" along the Great Miami River that was named after him, because of his ability to help his community. If we can provide the tie-in, I have a lot of cute little informational things for you from many different parts of the country on the Joyce line, plus a lot of proven lineage in this area. This family left a lot of positive footprints on this earth. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack & Linda Dietz" <jdietz2@woh.rr.com> To: <OHBUTLER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 01, 2005 1:25 PM Subject: Re: [OHBUTLER-L] roll call - gast-burns-joyce-williams-scott > Hi, > My Andrew born Dec 1853 married Mary Vannatta Dec 1877 in Butler Co. My Andrew Joice (Joyce) married Sarah Hawk in Butler Co in 1863. His gggrandfather, David, came from Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and he was part of the original Symmes Purchase Revolutionary War soldiers that settled this area around the early 1800's, right on the Great Miami River. I have a lot of blanks from a few of the offspring, but I have a fairly accurate (proven) listing of those who were in the lineage in the early 1800's. Many of the offspring had the wanderlust and moved west during the next 100 years. Ross (Venice) seems to be the burying place of the originals who stayed put. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack & Linda Dietz" <jdietz2@woh.rr.com> To: <OHBUTLER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 29, 2005 3:37 PM Subject: Re: [OHBUTLER-L] roll call - gast-burns-joyce-williams-scott > Hi Norma, Noticed the Joyce name, I have the following Joyce names in my > tree: > Andrew J Joyce who married Mary Vannatta their children were > Daisy, Charles, Earl Ambrose, Clinton & Bearle any connection? > Linda > JDIETZ2@woh.rr.com > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "by way of Norma Adams <njadams@cinci.rr.com>" > <genewill@sbcglobal.net> > To: <OHBUTLER-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Wednesday, June 29, 2005 12:42 PM > Subject: [OHBUTLER-L] roll call - gast-burns-joyce-williams-scott > > >> Lancaster,Pennyslvania........ You're welcome. BTW, I was looking at the 1930 Fed census images on Ancestry the other day in Oklahoma (then "Indian Territory") and it seems that they sorted the Indians into tribal groupings. One was of the Cherokee people and another was a different tribe. I'm sure there were more. Lots of half indians there. I only looked at a few images and didn't find my immediate people, but I'm keeping this in the back of my mind when I start working on my husband's Ragsdale line. For what it's worth, my husband was in the south many years ago and saw many an "Ebenezer Cemetery". Also, from info I just got, the first church built in Linden, Montgomery Co., IN was named Ebenezer Church, later re-named to Linden Methodist Episcopal Church. I think the verse quoted earlier about it being a sign of God's victory may be applicable. All other things being equal. Ebenezer Chapel Cemetery is located in Hanover Topwnship in the SW 1/4 of Section 7, T4N, R 2E on the East side of DeCamp Road, one mile west of the Village of McGonigle. It is an abandoned cemetery, in a neglected condition, located on private land. I have never visited this cemetery and this information is from Ohio Cemeteries: 1803-2003, page 75, compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society. Copies of this book are in most area libraries. Lawrence, I don't have anything on John Lance, just his name, wife Sophia, and their two children, but then I haven't looked into the Lance's that much. I seem to remember finding some land records in Fairfield Co., OH for him, but it has been so long ago that I did Bruner/Lance research that the memory's a little foggy. He might have died in a smallpox epidemic, but that is only family rumour. Other researchers in the Bruner line say that Sophia had a lot of children and many of them died. Maybe of smallpox? Who knows. My main line is Bruner. Christian and Sophia were both married to previous spouses, so when they moved from Ohio to Tama, IA, it was a "his/hers and theirs" kind of thing. Henry Lance, Sophia and John's son, moved to Tama with the others, but didn't stay long. I think he moved back to Ohio, joined the Union soldiers for the Civil War and died in that. His sister, Minerva (b. 1830, OH, d. 1911 in Fairfield, OH), married David Hill in 1850 in Sandusky Co., OH. They had one child that I know of, Emma F., who married George Reedy. They had a son, Russell. George Reedy was the brother to Nancy Jane Reedy who married Solomon Bruner, the brother to my Salem Bruner. Both Solomon and Salem were sons of Christian and Sophia. George and Emma lived in Floyd county, TX at some point, which was next to Plainview, Hale Co., TX, where Solomon and Nancy (Reedy) Bruner lived. They later moved to MO and finally to CA. Their son, Russell, died in Calipatria, Imperial county, CA. One other thing, both Sophia and Christian were of the Dunkard faith.
