Here is a list of "all" of Butler County Cemeteries along with map directions and access to an online inventory. http://kowallek.myiglou.com/dennis/genealogy/butler-cemeteries.php Dennis has done a great job and should be a major tool for visitors to Butler County Cemeteries. If the rest of us could just get the invetories online and linked to this page... Good luck with the Richard-Simpson cemetery. I believe it has been a topic for conversation in the archives of the mailing list. Sorry, forgot to write that it lists his profession as "salesman" on the 1910 census I take it you have his background, parents, etc.? I ask as you did not mention them, just the time frame between 1900 to 1920. Pavla
Hello Bette. There are 2 Jesse Stoners listed in the 1910 federal census: 1) Beaver, Lincoln county, Kansas: this one is 44 years old, b OH; has wife, Florence, age 40, kids Ruth and Jesse L, Jr. 2) Helena, Lewis and Clark co, Montana; this one is 49 years old, b OH, parents born MD; he's rooming w/a family. Per age, I'd assume this one is yours (if he was 59 in 1920, then 49 is right for 1910). Pavla
Hello Pavla, You may have actually found the Jesse "H." STONER of my focus although he is enumerated in the 1910 Census with a middle initial of "S". The age he gives in 1910 (49) fits well with his age in 1920 per the LA Census (59). However, his age in all censuses is considerably misrepresented as he was born in 1848 which puts him on the far side of 70 by the time of his death in 1922. On the plus side, his birth place is given as Ohio and his parents' as MD; both entries are correct. In addition he is listed as a "dry goods" salesman in 1910... not too much of a stretch from a grocery clerk in prior censuses. But it is a big surprise to me to find him in Montana... a long way from Ohio (Cincinnati Census 1900) but yet possible, I suppose, if he was on the move ... a wanderer...... headed for Los Angeles via Helena. I will look at this from other angles but so far this is the best lead that I have gotten. Thank you for looking and for the information. Hi Bette, I looked for him in the 1910 census but he doesn't show up anywhere. In 1920 he is listed in Los Angeles, age 59, a boarder, b. Ohio, and was a merchant in groceries. Thanks for your message Norma. Yes, what you have found is for the Jesse H. STONER of my focus. At some point he met up with & married Julia WEISS of Hamilton, Butler County. They migrated to Los Angeles but Julia is back home (Hamilton) living with her brother at the time of the 1920 Census. It is the in-between years that are unaccounted for. Do you have access to a Hamilton, Butler County City Directory or know anyone who does who may be able to place Jesse H. STONER in Hamilton during the time period. Julia WEISS'S whereabouts (address(es) per the city directory) after 1910 but before 1920 are of interest to me as well. I have exhausted the possibility of locating Jesse H. STONER in the 1910 Census so the only resource left seems to be a city directory ca. 1910 either of Hamilton, Butler Co. or perhaps Cincinnati, Hamilton Co. All the best, Bette > Hi Bette, > I looked for him in the 1910 census but he doesn't show up anywhere. In > 1920 he is listed in Los Angeles, age 59, a boarder, b. Hello List Members, I am searching for sightings of Jesse H. STONER in the Hamilton, Butler Co. area ca 1910. Would it be possible for someone to look for him in a Hamilton *City Directory* for the period (1900-1920). I know that he was present in Cincinnati in 1900 and died in Los Angeles, CA in 1922. It is the years in between that are of interest to me... anything that mentions him in connection to the Hamilton, Butler County area would be helpful. Many thanks, Bette

To Robert A. VanDyne: I've checked my files for info about Ira F. Hunt. The History and Biographical Cyclopedia of Butler County, Ohio, published in 1882, has a section on the history of Huntsville in Liberty Township. Ira Hunt and his sister Phoebe were "leading spirits" of the New Lights Church. The Church was built around 1831 or 1832. Hunt had a brick-yard and a mill. It says that he "moved West." I remember reading in a History of Champaign County that Ira Hunt organized a church there - near Shelby County. The History of Shelby County, Ohio, published in 1883, has a short bio of Heman R. Hunt. It says that he was born in 1819 and came to Shelby County in 1836 with his parents, Ira and Mary Hunt, who settled in this township where Ira Hunt died September 26, 1845. Mary died in 1855. Children of Ira Hunt were Justus T. Ira F. Phoebe D., Heman R., Eliza J., Nancy W. Mary E. and Rachel A. I have a copy of land sale in Shelby County to Catharine Fleming signed by Ira Hunt and his wife Mary Hunt.March 10, 1838. I also have a copy of a will abstract for Ira Hunt. But I don't have anything about Elizabeth Vanduyne. Paula, I'm interested in your request for obituary of Amanda Birch, died 12 December 1896. Is there any possibility that her father may been DeWitt Burch from Winnebago County, Illinois? I have an Amanda Burch (married name) 1799-1865. She had a son named DeWitt Burch, born about 1834.
