    3. While I am thinking of it, also go to "Butler County GenWeb". It is a very good site for you to run around in for a few hours, get to know about this part of the country, and actually have a lot of historical data that pertains to your search. Take the time to look closely. There is a lot about Paddy's Run (or Shandon) that is interspersed in all of the pages of this site. There is also a written history of the area that will help you in your search. You are looking at Morgan Township, Butler Co, Ohio for almost all of your questions. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Glenda19@aol.com> To: <OHBUTLER@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2007 1:54 PM Subject: [OHBUTLER] James NICHOLAS m Sarah MCKEE > > Does anyone have any info on the families listed below? 3. You have come to the right place..........It is a place called Shandon (or Paddy's Run or Glendower or New London, depending on the time in history over the last two centuries). Its central focus is the Congregational Church (also now known as the United Church of Christ), of which this place became the focal point for the people you have mentioned. As a cautionary measure, I will share with you that James Nicholas, Jr, moved his family to Gomer, Allen County, Ohio and helped settle that area in 1833. A large portion of these people that you have listed stayed around Paddy's Run and their blood still runs very strong in the people of that village. There is a book called "The Saga of Paddy's Run", by Steven Riggs Williams, that tells the story of this village and these people. It will be well worth the $10 or $12 that it will cost you for the information that it contains pertaining to these people and their families. Being that I grew up in this village, I am very familiar with the names that you seek. There are two main cemeteries that most of these now rest in....New London Cemetery and the old Shandon Cemetery (built at the time of the start of the village). I don't know where you live, but, if you are ever in a position to visit this little village, you would find it totally attractive, friendly, and ALIVE. John and Sally Evans' descendents are alive and kicking. There is a true sense of history and community...and people still actually care about each other. I am forwarding this message on to John Francis of Shandon, since he is probably the one that you will wish to request the book from, and he can possibly guide you in further assistance in your search. 3. Keep up the good work Carline and thanks. I am sure someone will benefit greatly from your work. I have a G,G,G grandfather buried somewhere in Butler Co back in 1815, but may never find where that grave is. Dorothy L. Page 12 & 99 in A History of Union Township Butler County Ohio by Virginia Shewalter, has the earliest burial in this cemetery to be Nancy Legg McMaken wife of John McMaken, died- Oct 9, 1820 27Y. The tombstone is very legible. Also in Shewalter's work, Nancy is supposed to be the daughter of Charles (1763 - 1864) and Rachel Wilcoxon (1762 - 1847) Legg and this coincides with online genealogies. Nancy is supposed to have married ?? McMaken. Ms Shewalter's book identifies Nancy as Joseph McMaken 1755-1818 daughter in law. but the McMaken online genealogies show either no Nancy as a wife of John McMaken, son of this Joseph or a Nancy Lockwood daughter in law to a John McMaken Since "Nancy McMaken" was 27 when she died and may have been married 7 years, she is likely to have had at least 1 child. Does any one have any idea if Shewalter's rendition of Nancy being the daughter in law of Joseph McMaken 1755-1818 is right/wrong? Could Nancy have been the daughter in law of John McMaken a possible brother to Joseph McMaken 1755-1818? I'm not planning on doing real research on everyone in the cemetery but have found interesting family connections within the cemetery using Shewalter's book and online genealogies. This question has me very confused- but that is easy when families named all their children the same names as their neices and nephews. Thank-you for any help. 3. You can see The Great Mound on Wayne Madison Rd. with Google Earth. It is at 39 degrees30'56.10" N and 84 degrees 28'34.45" W. I think this is also the 2nd highest point in Butler County. 3. The Indian Mound on Wayne Madison is called The Great Mound, with only the Miamisburg Mound being the only signal mound in the world that is larger. Both were built by the Adena. There was a third one of these in a row where the railroad goes through West Middletown (somewhere in the vicinity) but was taken out by the railroad company. I have also found a mound in great size like these across from Sebald Park, a mile or two up Dry Run Fork. Take care, J. Larry Helton, Jr. Famous last words: " Paddle faster, I hear banjo music..."

    1. [OHBUTLER] The Children of Lewis and Chloe Williams
    2. Mary L. Hughes
    3. Is there any one out there that is doing the family of Lewis Williams b. Sept. 11, 1770 in Westfield Essex Co., NJ., d. August 29, 1840 in Reily Twp. Butler Co., Ohio. He m. Chloe Campbell b. Abt. 1769 in NJ and d. March 11, 1833 in Butler Co., Ohio. I am trying to find the children of these persons. Two daus. have been identified as: Rachel and Anna Maria Williams. Two sons have been identified as Chester and John Williams. There is a possible third son by the name of Elias Campbell Williams who was born in NJ Abt. 1793-4. Elias C. Williams is our ancestor. Some facts that we are familiar with is that Elias Williams was spending time with Lewis and the others at the same church Indian Creek Presbyterian aka. Bethel. Lewis Williams and others left the Bethel church and formed the Reily Presbyterian Mission church in 1836. Can any one help me connect the dots between Lewis and Chloe Campbell Williams and Elias Campbell Williams? Or, can any one possibly help me with identifying who the others are that became charter members of the Reily church in 1836? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Mary Hughes

    3. I don't know about the ones at Armco Park, but isn't there a signal mound just off the corner of Thomas Road and Wayne-Madison Road, just outside of Jacksonburg? You can see it from the road...and I have always been told that it was a signal mound, but I never heard anyone call it by name. That one is not really close to 122. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry Helton" <spoors@localnet.com> To: "Butler Rootsweb" <OHBUTLER@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 05, 2007 1:15 PM Subject: [OHBUTLER] Indian mounds > Anyone know the location of two Indian mounds located inside of ARMCO Park > in Warren County? 3. Anyone know the location of two Indian mounds located inside of ARMCO Park in Warren County? According to the Ohio Historic Inventory there are two located there - ARMCO Park Mound I and ARMCO Park Mound II. It also has listed the Mann Mound in Jacksonburg - would that be the name of the one on Rt.122 going into Preble County? Take care, J. Larry Helton, Jr.
