Joy, In Ohio, births (and deaths) from 1867-19 Dec 1908 are not like the certificates we have today. They were recorded in ledgers (if they were even reported) which are held in the probate courts of the county where the event took place. There may be some discrepancies in the date in the book and the actual birth since most of the births were not reported right away. Many Ohio libraries do have copies of the records on microfilm available for on-site searches. You may find the correct date of birth and parents, but the name is not the one you are seeking. I thought I had found a twin sister to one my grandmothers and two additional brothers while looking at birth records in Pike Co. last year. Upon further investigation, their names had been changed after the births were recorded. My grandmother went from being a "Goldie" to a "Leona." I guess her hair must have darkened. : ) Strangely enough, one of her brothers named a daughter Goldie.
