    1. [OhBrown] A Brown County Lawyer ca. 1869?

    3. Last week at Clermont County Common Pleas, I found this journal entry for Catherine Berst Arbogast: J S Burnaugh (out in the margin) 3784 Catharine Arbogast by her next friend B F Acra, Plaintiff Against W A Dallas, Jno Moore, Marshall Dumford, defts May 22 1759 Petition filed and summons issued June 17 Motion filed August 23rd Demurrer filed. Then another entry: Term 1869 (top of page) 3784 Catharine Arbogast against W A Dallas, etal. This date this cause came on to be heard upon motion of defendant to separately state and number the several causes of action ** (looks like "to") and the Court being fully advised in the premises do find that said motion is not well taken and the same is overruled. Was "her next friend" the term for a lawyer? Was B F Acra a Brown County lawyer? Catherine Berst had been accidentally disinherited in 1860 when her father, Jacob, died in testate and Clermont County appointed W A Dallas, Jno Moore, and Marshall Dumford administrators of his estate. They ran ads in the Clermont County Courier trying to locate Catherine, but she was living in the Village of Arnheim in Brown County, Franklin Township, with the Ludwig Braun/Louis Brown family probably as an indentured servant. At the time of her petition in Clermont County, she had been married for about 1 month to Theodor Arbogast, hence the name change. Thanks, Buffy
