    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HOWLAND, SAUBER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xVB.2ACE/90.551.1158.1 Message Board Post: I have found some documentation linking the Brown county Howlands to Henry, Zoeth, and Nathaniel. The Vital Records of Dartmouth Massachusetts to the Year 1850, Volume I–Births, published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society Boston, Massachusetts (1929), available on microfilm from LDS Family History Centers, lists the following: Howland, John, son of Nathaniel [church record, records of the Society of Friends, Dartmouth monthly meeting], April 14, 1687 Howland, John, son of John and Mary, [church record, records of the Society of Friends, Dartmouth monthly meeting], Nov. 28, 1719 Howland, John, son of John and Deborah, Feb. 16, 1755 Howland, Thomas, son of John and Marcy, Oct. 10, 1794. >From Volume II–Marriages (1930): John of Dartmouth and Mary Cook, daughter of John of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, 2nd day, 8th month, 1712 John, son of John and Mary of Dartmouth, and Deborah Shepherd, daughter of John and Dorcas of Dartmouth, 5th day, 12th month "called February," 1745-6 [church record, records of the Society of Friends, Dartmouth monthly meeting] The history of Byrd Township (from the Brown County, Ohio, Rootsweb site) lists John Howland and his family among the early settlers and also indicates that those who served in the Revolutionary War and are buried in Brown County include John Howland, buried in Liberty Cemetary (presumably the third John, born 1755). The 1850 census for Kenosha County, Wisconsin, Pleasant Prairie township includes Thomas Howland, farmer, age 55, born MA, whose three oldest sons (ages 28, 26, and 23) were born in Ohio. Thomas Howland's oldest daughter, Ruby (born in Indiana) was my great grandmother. Ruby met and married her husband, John Sauber, an immigrant from Luxembourg, in Wisconsin. They later moved to California. Both of them are buried in Chico, Butte County, California.
