    1. [OhBrown] Orphanages in Brown or Clermont County in mid-1800s?

    3. Does anyone know whether there were any orphanages or children's homes in the mid-1850s in Brown and Clermont County? To find out about how my great-grandmother, Catherine Berst (whose father, Jacob, was a resident of Miami Twp in Clermont County, was placed as an indentured servant with the Ludwig Braun/Louis Brown family of Arnheim in Brown County, I am "studying" The Revised Statutes of Ohio by Curwen, which provide insight about the law as it stood in 1854 with regard to "orphaned" or unwanted children. I am just starting to investigate this, but so far, it seems that many children were placed in indenture after first being placed in an orphanage or children's home. I believe Catherine Berst was sent away when her father remarried in 1854. She was enumerated with the Braun/Brown family in Arnheim in Brown County by 1860. Have not found any probate records in Brown or Clermont pertaining to this. Thanks, Buffy
