Susanne, You can write the Brown County Genealogical Society at Box 83, Georgetown, OH 45121 and they will not only look it up for you, but for a small fee they will send you photo copy of the pages. They are very helpful folks there and I have had them send me a lot of "proofs"... Copies of court records and copies from the Beer's book. DH

I am new to the Brown County List, and am interested in descendants of William Brown KIRK. William B Kirk was born 1788 in Cecil Co MD, and died 1864 in Brown Co, and is buried Mt Carmel Cemetery in Washington Twp. His wife was Mary Williams, whom he married in Chester Co PA. He moved his family to Brown Co between 1832 and 1840, and engaged in farming. Their children who grew to adulthood are: Sarah, married Squire Pursell in 1850, no children Imri, died 1855, buried Mt Carmel, married Lucinda Crist 1841. Gideon, died after 1880. Joseph, died after 1900, married Margaret Ellen Colgan in 1860, 8 children. Joshua W, died after 1880, married Rachel Ball in 1848, 9 children. George W, married Rachel Elizabeth McVey in 1858. William S, born 1829, died 1852. Rev Eli, born 1831, left Brown County around 1860 and headed to Miami County area, where he married and had 3 children, one of them being my great grandfather. I have a diary covering 1856-57 written by Eli Kirk. He attended school at Ohio Wesleyan part of the year, and spent the rest of his time helping around his father's farm. There are many names of Brown Countians mentioned, and I may try to post some excerpts as time permits. Thanks for any info. Kathy

Hello Everyone, I am looking for information on Robert Savage. There are two Robert Savage's listed in the 1820 census and they are father and son. The son married Phebe Jones ca 1818 in Brown County. The father was in Mercer County, PA in 1800. The father was noted as being an "old man" when he arrived in Brown County. Any information on Robert Savage (either) would be greatly appreciated. Carol Janes

I am a direct 3rd cousin to the Keith Ellis you mentioned. He does have a lot of information on the Ellis's, but at the same time, he has a big feed store in Sardinia, ( just a country town, perhaps 850 people), and is very busy. If I could be of any help to you, please let me know, as I knew a lot of the old Ellis family, and do do some genealogy for people. I own a store in Georgetown where the Genealogy Society and the Probate Court is, and would be glad to try and help you. Give me all of the information on the subject that you are searching for, and I will see what I can find for you. I, also was born and raised in Sardinia, Ohio, and have lived around there for almost 68 years. GOD BLESS you & yours, Larry Mullen

I found out that my double (Wardlow-Dunn) cousin in Ohio knows Keith Ellis who lives in Sardinia. Since I live 2,000 miles away, I wrote to him, but got no reply. I understand that he is the Ellis family expert. I am also working with the Brown Co. Genealogical Society and will probably make a visit this summer. I have the original History of the Wardlaw family book which was published in 1929. My g uncle was Clayton J. Wardlaw (an attorney in Columbus) who did all of the Ohio branch research in the back. I also have a copy of Diane Wardlaw's book and the Beers Book on Brown County history. I just can't be sure that the Matilda Ellis mentioned is my ggg grandmother. I was hoping that one of the Ellis experts would help me out and confirm my research. Thanks for your offer to help. Let me know if you find anything.

Speaking of relatives from Brown County (or Clermont County) living over in Campbell County around 1849-1850, what was going on in Campbell County about then that would have attracted people to live there? My James Tinley/Finley Jefferson Johnson of Laurel in Clermont Co. and later P.O. New Harmony & P.O. Feesburg in Pike Twp. Brown Co. OH moved over to live in Campbell Co. KY 1849-1850.
Is anyone on this list seeking either ICAPGen accreditation or certification from BCG? Thanks, Buffy

Does a list of Brown County Infirmary residents for the early-to-mid 1850s exist? I have found a very few records of indenture/apprenticeship for Franklin Township. Two sources which "bound out" children to Brown County families in the late 1840s-50s were the Brown County Infirmary and the Cincinnati Orphan Asylum. Finding the Infirmary residents listed in the 1850 or 1860 census would not be helpful to me, as my great-grandmother was still living with her father in 1850 in Campbell County, KY and by 1860, was living with the family in Arnheim to which she had been apprenticed. Thanks, Buffy
