    3. Greeting to the list; I have just come from reading "ARKANSAS IN THE CIVIL WAR MESSAGE BOARD" All correspondence from queries is carried on on that board so if one reads the board, one gets, not only the questions, but also the answers. With this board, one can read the questions, but usually the answer goes back only to the person who sent the question. I find that, often I would like to know the answer, even though it does not pertain to my family. Anyone care to discuss this comment? George Edmondson

    3. Back in 1956,at the Bethel-Tate Alumni dance, my old uncle,Ely Brown kept cutting in on me dancing with sweet young things. So, I cut in on him dancing with the wife of his own teacher of 50 years past, Myrtle Mahaffey Ashton. There came a time in 1957 when Myrtle's grand- daughter was thinking of a Prom date, and Myrtle Mahaffey Ashton nominated me. And I've been around women with Mahaffey blood ever since. Wife, daughters, and granddaughter. Lafayette and Nancy Walker Mahaffey had a large family in ne Adams Co,Oh. Too large,so that Myrtle was sent to be raised by the JB Holman family] [JP of Sterling Twnsp,Brown co] . Lafe was son of Zachariah Mahaffey, who died as cooper at Cherry Fork, just east of Brown Co. Zachariah died in the 1860-65 period, and most of his siblings joined his brother at Goldsmith,Tipton Co,Ind. I'd been using the year,1799,as the date Zach's Mahaffey grandfather died south of Decatur,on East Eagle Creek. I think I learned that from Charlie,or Floyd Jackson, once of Hamersville,on-line about 1992-93. We seem to have an expert on the Mahaffey's on [email protected] . I remember hearing of 3 Mahaffey brothers on Eagle, but not 5,and Mrs Black. Since that portion of Eagle was very involved in the conversion to the "New Light, and then the Shaker religion 1801-06, were there Mahaffey's in the Feb 1811 Shaker migration to ill-fated Buseron village,on the Wabash, north of Vincinnes Indiana? ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xVB.2ACE/893.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Wish I could do more than wish you "good luck" but there were originally 5 Mahaffey brothers and one married sister who floated down the Ohio River around 1800-1803 and settled in Adams Co. Ohio. The brothers were John, Andrew, Wm, Joseph and Stephen and the sister, Jane, was married to Samuel Black. John, Andrew, Wm and Jane Mahaffey Black, remained in the Adams/Brown Co and Joseph and Stephen moved on. The remaining brothers all named their (many) children after their own siblings and there is considerable confusion as to whos-who. The Adams Co courthouse fire destroyed many records. but if you can get your ancestor back one more generation you should connect to one of those three brothers.

    1. [OhBrown] 2 Va mid Valley maps- Low Brown
    2. Hermon B Fagley
    3. I found today 2 maps Marilyn sent me 10+ years ago of the Roanoak - Blacksburg,Va area. I was remembering, and wanting these 2 maps 3 weeks ago when researching Pvt Low Brown, said by something Bob Orr found in the DNA, as being Thomas Brown's nephew. Since then,I lost that computer, and thus my ability to recall Low's father's name. But,while I can't remember 3 weeks ago,I think I CAN REMEMBER 10+ years ago, and the Thomas Brown, with 2 tracts near Salem,Va was then said to be a run-a-way apprentice from Salem Co,sw NJ. [or no great distance from w New Castle Co,Del]. I suppose these maps are from Kegley's,or similar mid Va Valley history. "Map of the Roanoak e Community, 1740-60 " HBF COALLA is one. Map showing the original LAND GRAnts OF THE SALEM,and Mason Creek Community" HBF COALLA 2ND has 2 tracts of Capt Ephriam Vause,father-in-law of Jacob Sadowski. Adjoining 1 tract is Henry Brown [Samuel Brown] and another,Thomas Brown. There is a 2nd Thomas Brown tract near the Presbyterian Meeting house, west 2-3 miles of the 1st group.Samuel Brown's tract is over a hill . Salem Va area John Cole joins the 2nd Ephriam Vause tract, while Samuel Cole adjoins the 2nd Thomas Brown tract.[ This am,while researching Jeremiah Brown,of James and Honor Clayton Brown, his wife,Mary Royale's father was given as a Coale- www.familysearch.org]. Several tracts are owned by General Andrew Lewis,or 1 is Fort Lewis . Arthur's Bottom is on the Roanoake River, just north of FORT LEWIS, AND across the river from Ephriam Vause's 2nd. I see some Welsh. And a James Patton small tract. Also Mathais Yoakum near Fort Lewis 2ND map extends sw past FORT LEWIS Mt, and Pearis Mt,to the Blacksburg,Va area. [Va Tech]. Draper's Meadows, and Low[e] Brown m Wm Draper's daughter. Wm Ingles [Prof Thom's "Follow the River",Tobias and Erick Bright, ,and to the east, south of Ephriam Vause's fort,is Col Joseph Crockett, of the Illinois Regiment of 1778-79. Anthony Crockett was privatre in Low[e] Brown's company to serve under George Rogers Clark,in Illinois. I have just found Crockett Marriages in I mmanual Episcopalian,in n Delaware. James Robinson's just north of Vause's Fort. Salem Co,very sw NJ IS JUST ACROSS THE DELAWARE from the Pa-Del line,or Marcus Hook-Chichester,of Jeremiah Brown's wife's Coale's. New Castle Co,n Delaware will abstracts have the wills,or witnesses,of several of these people like James Patton,Andrew Lewis,James Robinson, Some of you have read Prof Thom's "Follow the River" of the 1756 capture of the Ingles gal,and her later escape from west of Cincinnati witrh a German woman. You will not know what Sandusky-l researchers know of ePHRIAM Vause, who m the once Evesham Quaker Theodesia Hewlings at Philadelphia. Presbyterian . >From the 1756-57 attact and defeat of Vause's fort at Salem, mid Va valley, the Vause girl who would marry Jacob Sadowski, was scalped, and had an open tomahawk wound to her sinus. She survivied many years, but kept cotton in that sinus wound. Capt Wm Vause also survivied,to live in w Hampshire Co,Va and own a big tract in Brown Co,Ohio for his Va Rev War service. Jacob Sadowski, and son,Ephriam,"the infidel" Sadowski married EVANS from an adjoining Brown Co,Ohio tract . Meanwhile, back in s Burlington NJ ,the ld Quaker Hewlings [Hulings] widow wrote her will leaving something to Theodesia Hewlings Vause, 'if" she returned from captivity. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! 1. [OhBrown] Birth Certificates
    2. Carol or Cliff Jones
    3. Hello, I joined the list to see if somebody can tell me if 1850-60 birth/death records exist for Brown County. When I was visiting there a year ago, I did some research at the Genealogy Society in the old jail, and I have a handwritten note that says one of the ladies told me the records do not exist. I don't have a reason written down. So, does anybody know if they in fact DO exist, and I can write to the Probate Court or whoever for a copy of a birth certificate for 1863? Or do they NOT exist and I can't get my copy? Thanks much, Carol in Ocala, FL
