    1. [OhBrown] Johnathan and Elisa BURRIS
    2. DIANE
    3. Hello List, Hope some one has a little info that can help me. I am looking for information on Johnathan and Elisa BURRIS, the 1880 census shows them living at: EAGLE, Brown, Ohio. Is this a town or twp? Their children are listed as Frank B:1867 Elizabeth B:1868, Thomas B: 1870, Spencer B: 1875, Carrie B:1880. All the children were born in Ohio, so am assuming in EAGLE, Brown?? Johnathan was born in Ky, and Elisa in Ohio. Trying to find Elisa'a maiden name and where in Ky Johnathan may have come from. Thomas Burris migrated to Highland Co. Ohio. Is that close to Brown? Any information for this family is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and help. Diane (Looking for Burris's and Wilts)

Surnames: Ellis, Robison Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xVB.2ACE/1674 Message Board Post: I am looking for the entrance to the Ellis Grove Cemetery in Aberdeen. The cemetery is located off Fishing Gut Road. There are two 'cowpaths' that trail up the hill just after you turn on Fishing Gut, I'm sure one of these is the entrance. I would like to know anyone would be able to put me in contact with someone in the area that assist me in gaining access to the cemetery.

    3. Can you give me a little advice? I have been looking for a Jacintha Davis parents for ages and cannot find them. Have placed many queries with no answers. Jacintha was born in Brown County, Ohio in Georgetown in 1829. Married Wesley McElfresh in 1847. Do you know of any way I could locate her parents? I do not know their names as the marriage license just listed Jacintha and Wesley's name in a book. I would appreciate any advice you could give me. A great, great granddaughter told me that Jacintha was part Indian. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xVB.2ACE/1304.1.2.2.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Do you have any information on your gr-gr-gr grandfather, William Wallace who married Hannah Parker? I have been lead to Charles Wallace and Hiram Wallace who were siblings of your gr-gr grandfather William Wallace. Charles was apparently the father of Anna Elizabeth Wallace who married Robert Nevil. It seems that Charles and his wife Elizabeth were not in the 1880 census and Anna Elizabeth is not found either. Anna Elizabeth was born July 02, 1872 in Brown Co., OH. Three of her siblings are found with William & Hannah in the 1880 census.

    1. [OhBrown] New List Admin
    2. David E. Cann
    3. Due to some changing priorities, I have found it necessary to transfer some of the lists and boards that I administer, and this will have to be one of them. I have made a lot of friends doing this over the last few years, many of them coming from this list, and the new Admin is one of them. Mary Faircloth has been a subscriber to the list possibly longer than I have, and she has a good many of her ancestors from Brown County and surrounding area. She is an experienced Admin, and I know she will do well with it. I have already asked for the message board to be transferred to her, and as soon as I see this message hit the list I will transfer the controls for the list to Mary. I will remain a subscriber for the indefinite future, so you will likely see me jump in from time to time. I welcome hearing from you on or off the list at any time, but for those of you who have recorded my personal e-mail address, please note the one below is new. The other one at RootsWeb for the List Admin will still reach the Admin, but now it will go to Mary. David E. Cann [email protected]

    1. [OhBrown] Looking again for McCormick line
    2. Arthur Miller
    3. Looking for any info on early McCormick's in Brown Co., Ohio. I have John E. McCormick b. 1788 in Pa. living in Bracken Co., Ky. from 1809. In 1810 census for Bracken Co. there is listed a John McCormick (age 26-45) and a James McCormick (age 26-45). James is gone thereafter but John stays, marries Mary Anderson of Mason Co., Ky. in 1809, and dies in Augusta in 1868. John's son William B. b. 1814 graduated from Medical College of Ohio in Cincinnati in 1837 and practiced medicine in Lewis Twp, Brown Co., Ohio through mid 1850's before going back to Bracken Co. I'm wondering if John E. McCormick has any roots in Brown Co., Ohio. Anybody with any thoughts on this matter please advise. Art Miller, Louisville

    3. I have the following from the book; "Arthur Ellison of Adams County, Ohio and some of his Descendants" By; F, Vernon Ellison (1979) 601 South Marshall Road Middletown, Ohio 45042 Chapter VIII page 53; MAHAFFEY (MEHAFFEY) FAMILY; "John Mahaffey (Mehaffey) was born Aug.. 31, 1759, in Sussex County, N.J., one of seven brothers of Scotch-Irish parents, according to one tradition. In the fall of 1774 (age 15) he moved to Cumberland Co., Penna., where he resided two more years. In the spring of 1776 he moved to Westmoreland Co., Penna., and in May, 1799, at age 40, he moved to Liberty Twp., Adams Co., Ohio where he in 1832 he applied for and commenced receiving his annual $60.00 Revolutionary War pension." More of his war service including the War of 1812 which I have omitted. "A History of Adams Co., Ohio" Evans & Stivers spells the name with a "e", states John Mehaffey and family came from Pennsylvania in 1799 and settled on Hills Fork of Eagle Creek in what is now Liberty Twp. That was the neighborhood of Arthur Ellison, the McGovneys, Roebucks, Samuel Smith and most of our other ancestors." "John Mehaffey married Rachel Gordon of Westmoreland Co. in 1779. She was born in August, 1763, and died May 30, 1844 in Liberty Twp., Adams Co., Ohio. John died in Highland Co., Ohio, Aug. 20, 1848 and is buried in Ebenezar Cemetery near Mowrystown. Ohio." "There were many Mahaffeys in Adams and adjoining counties. John, Andrew and William appear on the early quadernnial enumeration of males 21 years and older of Adams County." Issue of John and Rachel (Gordon) Mahaffey; Robert; Joseph; Samuel; William*; John; Nain; Nancy; Jane; James; 2 sons & dau. died young. *"William Mahaffey born Dec. 12, 1797, Westmoreland Co., Penna. died 1880 Liberty Twp., Adams Co., married Feb. 10, 1820 Esther Ellison d/o Arthur Ellison and Sarah (Smith). William was an infant, less than three years old when his parents brought him down the Ohio River by the usual means of transportation, the flatboat. to Adams Co." >From my research; Arthur Ellison and Sarah Smith had 11 children. One daughter, Mary (Polly) (1796- after 1870) married James Dement/Demint and Esther (1801-1885) married William Mahaffey. These families intermarried with Roebucks, Thornburgs etc. and very hard to "untangle". Almost have to do all in order to keep in order. I have two Rebecca Dement's marring a William Mehaffey. Trying to determine where they belong. All of these families from Adams to Brown to Scioto Co. in Ohio. Carleene (Olds) Roe Kettering, Ohio [email protected] 5/2003

    1. [OhBrown] KENNEDY/CLARK, 1801
    2. I have an indenture dated 1801 for Alexander KENNEDY who is purchasing land from Joesph CLARK and spouse Sarah, in Clermont Co. My ancestor, Thomas KENNEDY, is shown on the 1830 census of Huntington Twp, Brown Co OH. Thus far, I have not found a relationship of Thomas to any of the KENNEDYS in Brown Co. The early deed only mentions boundaries by poles, trees, etc. This one gives no neighbors' names. Am hoping someone knows who Alexander is. His given name is not as popular as the many other KENNEDY given names. All help appreciated Virgene in northwest Indiana
