Hermon, It sure sounds sad about the farmers. I have a son who lives in Morrow and he said the farm lands were in bad shape. He just had a pole barn built and they can't get in to finish with the concrete for the floor because of the wet grounds. They only have a small garden and want to get a couple horses, but that's impossible right now. I know the problems he has had this year, so we can just imagine how the big farmers are hurting. Anna
I rode east with my wife yesterday to visit a couple houses she's listing for sale. I thought things looked bad here! We drove through Tate Twnsp,Clermont Co,and Bethel, and thru Hamersville,Clark Twnsp, Georgetown,Pleasant twnsp,to Russellville, Jefferson twnsp, Brown Co,Ohio 20-25 miles on St RT 125 past some of our finest, upland farms, and nothing is planted yet,and it just rained again last night. After a cold wet winter,we had a spring break in early April where farmers fertilizied and sprayed herbicide on the fields they intended to plant in corn and soybeans. But it was too early to plant seed. Now,we have had 2 months of the fields being too muddy. Almost no field is planted, and the few that are,1 excepted, have a poor stand, and many weeds. I see the best vegetable garden in my 3\4 mile walk east, and a very poor stand of corn in my mile walk west. Most fields I saw had been sprayerd for weeds. Period. The calandar's running against the farmers. It's about too late to plant even a short season corn variety. "If" it quits raining today, they'll have a few days to plant soybeans. And I saw 1 small field of just transplanted tobacco. 1 field only, and we were crossing the tobacco belt. Dad always talked of 1917,when they played horseshoes all spring waiting for the fields to get dry enough to plant, and finally, they got their corn planted very late, and had an early autumn freeze kill it before it had ears formed. They filled their barns with the frosted stalks, but had a blizzard-ice storm early that kept the livestock in the barn, and they were starving on that poor feed before winter broke. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Bloom Rose has a brick church adjoining the cemetary. The church, when founded, was United Brethern,or Germanic Methodist. Some 20? years back, there was a merger of several denominations into the United Methodists that included the United Brethern, and,I read, the Nazarene, among others. It's a different Johnson family. My wife's Isaiah 1770-1830]and Mary Sooy Johnson once lived no great distance from the n w corner of Pike township .Might have even gone to church together,if the dates meshed. Laurel [Carmel Methodist] is where my maternal grandparents were, and my boyhood buddy,Mike Ireton has Marsh blood. My David Brown's girls marrid John Corbin,Henry Barkley, and David Morton, and son m Sue Fisher. On my grandmother's side,it' s Adam Simmons daughter marrying Thomas Hitch's John. 1876 atlas shows Orpha Ireton in n w Pike. New Harmont is the cemetary of that neighborhood.[and Sarah Day. Owen's were in New Harmony. I see Wm Johnson and Wm Conover in nw most Pike It's close. Isaiah Johnson's and Wm Johnson's both on Todd's Run. I don't know the exact farm that Isaiah lived on before they moved north to Jackson township. 1 mile? Little Egg Harbor township, eastern Burlington Co,NJ HAS,1794,I think, the right Isaiah Johnson. s On Mon, 9 Jun 2003 9:01:44 -0400 <[email protected]> writes: > I am interested in the genealogy of the Johnson family buried at > Bloom Rose. > > I have no evidence that this Johnson family is buried there. I am interested in the genealogy of the Johnson family buried at Bloom Rose. I have no evidence that this Johnson family is buried there. Two members of this family are buried at Laurel Cemetery in Monroe Twp., Clermont Co. OH. Seeking parents of James Tinley/Finley Jefferson Johnson b.1810 in KY who lived Brown Co. YES,I have a book with some Brown Co burials that includes Bloom Rose , was United Brethern. It's not a really old cemetary. 1850 maybe ,for a neighborhood settled,in part, about 1810.. I knew about Bloom Rose for 20 years before I saw it a couple years ago. Still never walked in it. It's roughly between Herb's,Steward's,and Tina's. There is a much older "PRICE" cemetary near Steward's,and Charles Johnson's buried near Herb's. Ruth Ann has Allen Johnson buried in Bloom Rose,at least. He might be a 1st cousin of Nancy Johnson Jones. I'll keep my eyes open for the book. It's lost it's bright blue cover.
