I found that a relative had been committed to a mental hospital also...the information was in his file at the courthouse in his home county...Had gone searching for a will and a possible divorce and found that.. I would think you would find it in the file with his will or probate records... Also searched another Iowa county and found a book that listed all the commitments in that county from 1870 or so on...
