Dear List, Some of you have probably watched me struggle with my Powell family. Today, I have a final piece of evidence that leads me to feel confidence in announcing, Joseph Powell born 1780 Shenandoah County, Virginia was the son of Richard and Sarah Powell. We found the burial site of Joseph's wife, Mary Brook Powell, in Feeny Cemetery Pleasants County, West Virginia. She died June 7, 1855. Then this was found at the Pleasants County Courthouse: "Pleasants County Marriage Register Bk. 1 dated 12 Feb. 1856: Husband: (blank), Age: 76, Widower, Born: Shen. Va., Parents: R.&S. Powell Wife: (blank), Age: 54, Widow, Born: Wood County, Parents: D.&M. Limeson" As there are no other Joseph Powells in the area, the age is right, the birthplace is right, he was a widower at this time and he owned the property now known as the Cal Martin Farm where the Feeny Cemetery is located, I'm calling it confirmed. This is as primary as I'll probably get. No will can be found in Pleasants County for Joseph. Too bad the names weren't written for Joseph and the unknown second wife but someday I hope to find her too. Anyway I wanted to share this with everyone. I hope I'll be able to confirm Barnabas, Abner and Joshua Powell as sons of Richard and Sarah Powell in the near future. I'll keep you posted. Thanks to everyone for all your help!!!!
