Is anyone working on these names in early Belmont Co? I have John Chandler AYRES 1769 - 1852 m Frances Kendall FERGUSON ca 1788 - aft 1854. John was born in Virginia and I had assumed Frances was too, but she told the census of 1850 that she was born in Ohio. Because she was so much younger than he was, it is possible she was a second wife, but I don't know that. There are various men with the above names there in the early 19th c and it is possible that one of them is her father or brother but I have no evidence. It seems clear that this name gave the local spellers all kinds of trouble. I would like to hear from anyone who has encountered her. TIA, Jan
