In late June and early July, I will finally be able to fulfill my dream of visiting Barnesville and Miltonsburg to see where my Hunckler/Hunkler and Wegemer/Wagoner/Wagner ancestors lived. My great grandfather, John W. Hunkler's (1842-1929) last residence was a farm on Pultney Ridge. Is Pultney Ridge considered part of Barnesville? Would anyone know where I might find the land records and the 1920 Census? John's 1929 obituary indicates he and his wife, Catherine, lived on Pultney Ridge from about 1915-1929. Catherine might have stayed on for awhile. Catherine lived into her 90's and died in 1945. Any help will be gratefully appreciated! Martha Stead San Diego
This site mentions Pultney Ridge, and you many want to include some of the byway on your trip. http://www.ohiobyways.com/Drovers.htm (whenever we travel anywhere we always search for scenic byways, All American Roads, etc, to see, while there - they are generally the best scenery the area has to offer.) It may be called the Pultney Ridge Road, and this may find something on it, if you surf the web and have a look-see.....
