Walt, The William Barnes that I am researching was born in PA on Jun 27, 1795. Married in PA. 1st 2 children born in PA, next 8 in OH, and last 2 in IN. Most of the Barnes in Barnesville and Belmont Co. are of the James Barnes line which my William Barnes is another line of Barnes. Wm Barnes 3rd child is also named William Barnes and was born abt 1837 in OH, A grandson, also named William Barnes was born abt 1870 in IN. The time frame for my William Barnes in OH is abt 1836 to 1860, because he was listed in the 1860 census for Brown Co. IN. I have looked at the James Barnes line and can not find any connection between the two. Sorry I can't help more.
